what kind of rear diff is in a 79 Vette?

I have a 79 L82 Corvette and i am curios if my rear diff is a dana or a GM 8.2in?

Yours should be the older style GM 8.2 rear the Dana was a 44 style diffand aluminum.

you have the corvette specific cast iron diff with an Eaton posi case.

If memory serves, Eaton made them for GM. The Dana units went under the 80-82s with the aluminum crossmember.
