Hey guys, my starter is dragging so Im going to replace it. If I remember Callaway changed the starter from factory.....does anyone know what it is or have a part number?

It's been a while since I was down there, but I recall the starter looking just like a stock one. (gear reduction type)

As far as any repairs go, are there any shops that anyone knows of In Illinois that know their way:bang around a Callaway? Just incase I have any problems.:puke

Surf, there is a slight difference on our starters. You may want to contact Ted Rice for some info on the part as it is specific to B2K's.
Another option is, remove your starter rebuilt - look in your local telephone book for alternator / starter rebuilders. :m

Hmm...

I thought it was a standard gear reduction starter but there is an adaptor on it to change its position due to the placement of the right turbo. The starter sits upsidedown from its normal placement when bolted onto the blue Callaway starter mount. See below:

Luigi, That is correct - due to the "adapter" (the machined blue piece that is a Callaway trademark - any piece machined in blue) youcan't just get a gear reduction starter from a parts house and put it place without some work...

If mine went out, I would get it rebuilt by local rebuilder of starters.

As always, Great pics Luigi :m

Love this place!

Excellent info as usual guys....thanks. I'll look into a rebuild. Probably gonna call Ted anyway just for kicks.

Yup a rebuild is the way to go. According to Ted, the starter was redesigned and will no longer work with the blue anodized Callaway part. He said it had to be a rebuild.

Kinda scary that there is another part which has to be rebuilt and is no longer produced.

Surf - Don't worry about it :) The starter that you were looking to buy, more than likely, would have been "rebuilt / reman." anyways - At least now your starter will be "hand crafted" ;)

I'd put my money on the local rebuild before an off the shelf part but I know part store buys are more convenient :m
