What size harmonic for 77 l48

Hello,

I got an 8 inch harmonic balancer to replace the failing harmonic balancer on my vette. But I didn't think that there would be different sizes.

Can anyone tell me if my new 8 inch can replace the stock harmonic.

Its a 77 l-48.

I see that the l-82 used a 8 inch harmonic. Since I bought it from e-bay I cant bring it back. So would I be able to purchase a new timing cover and pointer for an 8 inch harmonic. Beign wanting to change to chrome timing cover anyways.

Just need some info before I go ahead and do all of This. Dont want to cause serious damage to my engine.

Finally got the old harmonic balancer off tonight. WOW the outer ring was barely hanging on.

Measured it and its 6" 3/4 . Still havent decided if im going to install the 8 inch. Thinking im better off taking a hit in the wallet and getting the original size.

A local mechanic told me that I could use the 8 inch but something in my gut tells me im looking at getting into trouble.

Anybody have any knowledge. Thanks.

8" will work as well as smaller one ... just make sure your new timing tab for 8" is actually aligned w/ damper's mark when motor at TDC. FYI ... most chevy hi-po crate motors come w/ 8".
