I went for my personal favorite, the 68-70 GTO. Never owned one, but always wanted one. Still do. I did own one Pontaic. A 1981 Turbo Trans AM. What a turd!!!! Great idea, bad execution.

It's hard to say what was the best Pontiac. I've monkeyed with a few of them. I certainly was crazy about the '65 GTO when it came out, and I liked the 2+2 of that year as well. All the '65s from Pontiac were classy. Motor Trend selected Pontiac as the car manufacturer of the year in 1965.
I own a 79 Trans Am 6.6 TA (L78-W72, with 4 wheel disc brakes, 4 speed). The 79 Firebird was a terrific seller for PMD.
The 69 GTO was very cool, and the 455 HOs were top notch too. Then of course was the 70 1/2 TA and the Super Duty.
The G8 is a Holden built automobile and came too late for Pontiac. Pontiac had no direction for many years and its demise was just a matter of timing. Very disappointing for the legions of loyal Pontiac fans out there.
Somewhat partial to to the 70-73 birds. I've got two from that Era. 73 Bucaneer Red TA 4 speed, and a 71 Formula 455 auto w/air.
The best pontiac in my eyes was the 73 SD Trans Am. At the point where power was winding down, this beast came out. It was an aggressive move. What do I know, I wasn't around!!!
Here's another G8 for Pontiac's best model: Hurst announces Pontiac H.O. G8
The Pontiac brand may be on its way out the door, but that doesn't mean it can't have one last fling with a renowned tuner. Hurst Performance Vehicles, the legendary shifter company that most recently has made waves with its Hemi Challenger, announced its new H.O. program for the Pontiac. Few details have been released regarding the performance upgrades of the cars, but each will feature Hurst's signature black/gold or white/gold paint scheme, forged alloy Hurst wheels, an exclusive Hurst shifter, supercharged engine, suspension upgrades, and a newly trimmed interior.
I like the 66 GTO the best. Had a room mate in college that had a light metallic green with black interior. We went on a lot of double dates in that car. The back seat was great.
Buick has higher quality standards and China loves them.
However there are 22 and 23 year old "grandpa" buicks that will spank your pretty c-5. God invented turbo lag so guys like you in your c-5's would think you would actually have a chance
I will never forget the look on the driver of a c-5 vert when a light turned green. He stomped on it and went. About a split second later the turbo on the "grandpa" buick kicked in and I think the guy nearly pee'd his pants when the whistle went by. Next light he turned right and probably had to explain to his younger wife or gf why his pretty vette just got blown away by a "grandpa" buick!
Fun Stuff!
Best Pontiac???? 89 TTA. Oh wait. Is that really a pontiac or is it a buick since it had the powerplant from that "grandpa" car
Well, I voted 64 GTO...the start of the musclecars. But I really like the all GTOs from 64-72, early Firebirds, and the G8. I've been driving Bonnevilles since 1995 (92 SSEi, 96 SSE, 2003SSEi), I told the wife the G8 would be the next one...guess the government took care of that one for us though.
You left my favorite Pontiac off the list. The Solstice anyone??? Looks sharp as heck, better than the Sky, in my opinion. Comes in a targa top coupe form too now. Ever drive one, a GXP perhaps? The run like a ape chasing a banana. I love those little cars. Would make me a nice driver, maybe after I get done with modifying the Rubie.
I voted for the 65-66 GTO as the best. But, I'll have to say a buddy of mine bought a brand new red 73 SD455 when I lived in Rantoul Illinois. That was one fast and powerfull car. Unfortunately Mike had to sell it when his baby girl came along.
