Hey folks,
First I want to state GREAT FORUM.
Anyway, first time 'vette owner- got a convertible '04 C5 at the end of February, and I've been very happy. At the same time a buddy of mine got a Honda S2000. To make a long story short late last Sunday night / early Monday morning the punks jacked his car up and stole his four wheels/tires, and spray-painted/vandalized his convertible top.
Got me to thinking. I broke out my owners manual and it seems to me that the factory alarm system is centered around the door locks/ignition system. No motion detector/mercury switch.
Does anybody have a recommendation for an after-market alarm system? I've done some prowling around (no pun intended) and it appears that Chevy/GM doesn't have any upgrades available.
I also saw a string below talking about wheel locking lugs. Does anybody have any recommendations on a solution to this problem?
Don't get me wrong- I'm heavily insured, but I really would like to make it harder for the somewhat less-determined thief. I also don't have the option of garaging- my garage is full of motorcycle-related stuff. I keep the car covered, but I'd still like to deter the punks.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
John Wilson

I'd like help on this item as well. Are locking lugs a good investment. I park in my garage, but when traveling it would be nice to know removing the wheels would be much more difficult!
Any Recommendations?
Thanks,
Gus

What's up guys?

Unfortunately, the wheel locks will only slow a person down but with the right equipment, that is readily sold in retail stores, these locks can be taken off as easily as a regular lug. A tilt sensor would be a nice deterent.

So there is no point in buying wheel locks?
Anything that slows 'em down will help. Your average punk probably doesn't carry specialized tools around. That said, if a professional car thief wants your car, he will get it.

I have them on my car and they give me a false sense of security, but I know if someone wants my wheels they'll get them unless I'm standing there.
