Wheel Lug Nut Bolts Broke Off....

Jeremy: OK. I really don't know what kind they are either. Look like 80's style rims to me & may be out of production. Thay are a nice type of wheel. Couple of questions: How thick are your spacers? What type of lugs are u using; regular style type lugs or the ones with a shaft where the shaft part actually goes onto the lug nut hole of the rim where the studs are (similair to the kind of lug nuts used with Cragar S/S mags). Speaking of Cragars: those rims of yours might be cragars (they look like an older style drag star which Cragar makes) OR they could be ET's, I think that ET made a similiar rim. Either way, you could contact these two rim makers & send 'em a photo via e-mail (these places should have web sites) of your rims to see if they were made by them. It's worth a shot, in my book. Sometimes you've got to do a little bit of "homework" to get to where you wanna go. In your case, keeping these rims on the car without the fear of 'em falling off. Let me know what you find out

Dave: Well, tried Napa, and them like everyone else was a no go. They only have stock stuff. As to the lugs, yes, they are the ones that have a lip that goes in to the actually rim. They do have an ET marking on them. I'll try and check more into that.

I tried S-K speed and they were able to come up with a lug stud, but it's too long and I also thing the end is too thick to go into my spindle.

I'm also trying to track down what I think is the original owner. I'm sure he'll be able to tell me a lot!

Thanks again and I will keep you updated!

Jeremy: If you can get the owner to help you out, that would be your best bet. I think that the problem with your rims are that the stock lugs that came with those rims were used with the spacers. Even though they fit & tighten down the rims, they're unsafe to use with spacers. What you need to do is get a new spacer kit that comes with the longer shaft lugs to compensate the difference in the thickness of the spacer. Some of my buddy's were too cheap to buy the whole kit & just bought the spacers & used the lugs that came with the rims. This is a NO-NO. Although I never heard any of them losing wheels, it could of just as easily happened (my buddies never kept their cars long anyway. Always looking for different ones all the time). This is what I would do. You can try Summit Racing in Ohio www.summitracing.com. Give 'em a call. Their tech support is one of the best I have found. If anybody can help you out, it would be them. They sell Cragars & those types of spacer kits.
Let me know how you make out.

Peace! Dave

i am sorry for those who have had this happen. at least now i don't feel so stupid. mine did the same on the rear. blew out the whole top of the fender. then i had the adjuster from hell.

YES, they are ET rims from the seventies! The manager on the phone doesn't have any other information on them but he does have the UniLug washer and Lug Nuts. Unfortunately he doesn't have the studs!!! So, the search contintues! He did also say that he gets requests for 68-82 Corvette wheels, but they don't make them. He said to me I should just have the original wheels on it! Thanks dude....weird!

But anyway, thank you to everyone that has helped thus far...you've been great!

I'll keep updating...

IT'S DONE!!!

Finally got it all done...for the most part. Got the new wheel studs in and lug nuts with UniLug washers. Got the wheel on there and boy is it good to drive again! Only thing is there is a little sound that goes along with the speed of the car. I think it might have something to do with the parking brake cable. Other than that, everything seems fine. So, I'll have to check that out tomorrow...but for now, it's good to have the Vette back on 4 wheels!

Jeremy: Glad to hear that you got "her" back on the road. Persistance does pay off! One thing you should do now & add to your regular maintenence: make a regular check of the proper torque of your wheel lugs. Good luck to you with your "vette.

Peace: Dave
