Hello Guys & Gals,

Does anyone know where I can get an original "Wheel Nut Socket" as depicted with the "Jack Assembly" on page 5-25 of our 1996 owners manual? It is depicted as "C" in the picture. Maybe someone has a GM part number for the "Wheel Nut Socket". Either way if you can help please E-Mail @ dickcox1@comcast.net or call 301-884-0116.

My local "Chevy" dealer is of no help!!!!

Thank you,

I was looking at the plastic bag that came with my GS that holds the security lug nuts and special key socket and there is a card from the company that makes them inside. It says for a replacement contact:

AMCOR Wheel Locks
12955 Inkster
Livonia, MI 48150

I didnot check, but I'm sure they have a web site where you can probably get a phone# and give them a call

Good luck

No Problem, I've got several items from Dino, he's a good guy.

What about replacing a wheel nut

I striped one of my wheel nuts last week and had to use a hammer on the socket to get it to stick on well enought to remove. I didn't want to put it back on for obvious reasons, so I put one of the stock non-keyed nuts in its place until I decide what to do.

So my options are to replace the one nut (and if that is possible), take the other three security nuts off (replacing them with stock non-secure nuts in their place) or replace all the nuts with chrome ones and new chrome locks. I don't mind the plastic covers for now. I'm wondering how vulnerable I am for loosing the stock wheels. Any thoughts are appreciated. Right now I'm thinking of replacing the other three nuts and getting rid of the locking ones. I would hate to have one of these suckers strip on me again when I need to remove the wheel. - Ron

Go to the dealer and by the new set of wheel locks, they are designed differently, with the wrench going inside the nut. Much Better!!! Stock GM!!!
I use the new ones and keep a set of AMCOR (still in box) originals for display!

I think it depends almost entirely on how you use/park/secure the Vette. The way I drive mine nights/weekends and where I usually park health club/autox venue/Vette club meetings at hotels I could really care less about having the security keyed lug on each wheel. I'm at very low risk to have someone steal my wheels. I think they'd go for the whole car if anything (Got Lojack?)

I switch wheels often to put my second set (racing) on so the security lug just slows things down.

Now if you park on the street at night in a bad part of town maybe you need 'em.

Lots of guys have trouble with the security lugs when the dopey kid at the tire store shoves his air gun on crooked & strips 'em.

If you buy aftermarket get McGuard, I have them on another car & they hold up & look great!

Thanks Froggy47. I'm thinking I'll just take them off. The 'Vett is garaged at night, the neighborhood is suburbia we're really not too upscale (in the low 300K) For Seattle it's average, but for some reason another 'Vett club member lives in the development and there is a Ferrari Testarosa two doors up and a Porche 911 up the street from him. It's a close knit neighborhood. My wife and I use the 'Vett for weekend trips and I use it for tooling around doing chores if the weather is reasonable. Thanks for the info.
