OK, I screwed up and "fell for a pretty face" .. and it sounds like "she" had a "social disease" that I am now stuck with.

I bought a set of HRE wheels and when they were getting loaded into the back of my truck (they had to come off the other guys car), at the tire shop I nearlly went into a coma!

Two of the wheels had the air pressure sending sensors stuck on with an epoxy. One had a band around it for additional support and I was handed another band in a bag.

Two were held on by "double stick tape" .... looks like the epoxy failed ??

In all cases ..... the sensors (the sending "pucks") ... were cut but according to the seller they worked and would still communicate with the dash and give a reading.

Since the rumor was the wheels were made for Lingenfelter I called them and they said .... yep that's how they did it in 2000 ....

Soooooooooo ..... ????????

1. Should I try to use new epoxy and bands and put this Rube Goldberg device back together ????

or

2, Is it possible to eliminate the sensors (yeah, just rip them out) and disconnect communication to the display so I don't get annoying readings like when a tire is going low?

These HRE's sure are pretty .... but the thought of driving around with a metal band and some glue holding my sensors which (cause they are cut), may or may not work is driving my nuts.

:W :eyerole

Not going to be able to help you much, but I think that the tire sensors can be programmed out in the computer. I know what you are talking about falling for the "pretty face". Which HRE wheels are they? I think my favorites are the 540's. Pictures would be nice. :D

2001 or newer can be turned off with a Tech II tool.

Older ones you have to hit reset every time you start the car.

As far as the 'band' goes, that is how the C4 sensors were mounted. If you look at a C4 with sensors Vs. without sensors, the wheels look identical because the valve stems are not integrated. The C5 setup is integrated into the valve stem so if you have wheels that are not designed to accept the sensors you strap them or use the epoxy. It's really not a big deal, pretty normal stuff.

Thanks .... :bash but why me lord? Why me?

I might have considered the "disconnect" option but with runflats ... and I did pick up a nasty long screw bout' a week ago .... that probably isn't a good idea.

It's hard getting used to seeing this "pile of weird junk" when you take the tire off.

Spoke to the HRE folks and they were pretty nice about it .... and for a few hundred more (plus shipping) .... they would be willing to do an upgrade and refurburish ... even after all these years.

If I was single and ... the wife didn't know how much I've already spent ... and ..... I would box em' and ship them for the upgrade. But, she knows that this project is starting to (and will pass the $2,000 mark) by the end of the week.

I'm lucky it's still pretty warm and there is room in the dog house .... that mutt better not have fleas and stuff.

But .... they are sooooooooo purty .... they are the 545 .... :)

Those are going to look sweet on your car. What sizes are they?

Supposed to be "dead stock" 17 X 8.5 & 18 X 9.5 .....

Thanks for the "up-beat" and good vibes stuff guys .... :):):)

Man, I needed it bad! After seeing the wheels "opened" up with epoxy and tape and these huge "hose clamps" ... I was pretty freaked out.

Being retired for the last few months .... I can't hide $$$ like I used to. All of my "Area 51 and Skunkworks" projects are under the eye of "She Who Must Be Obeyed" ....

The bad news is that now ... if I have to sink more money into it ...... darned, there goes some of the little go-faster projects like the cold air kit and the headers and ....

I'll get my kid to shoot a few pics when wheels are mounted. The owner of the tire shop is on vacation this week and said he won't let the other guys near them .... kind of turning into his pet project.

Again ...... thanks ...... at least some people understand this and know I ain't crazy .... right? :W

These are the ones I'd like to have...like yours in dead stock sizes..

You say that a 2001 or newer can be turned off with a Tech ll tool !! and how do you do that ???

Thomas, I would think that you could take it to the Chevy Dealership and they would have to do it for you.
