Where can I buy a Stock PROM?

Anyone know where I can buy a Stock PROM for the 86? I have the old one, but I am not sure if it is still good. I hate to put it in and have bigger headaches. The PROM in there now is a hypertech, but I suspect it to be faulty, or have a too agressive ignition advance curve for my higher compression than stock engine.

This is just for troubleshooting purposes before I have a custom chip burned.

Thanks,
Craig

I got one for my 85 last year from https://www.rockauto.com. You have to look under Electrical then Engine Control Module PROM after you select the make, model, and year. If someone has a current RockAuto discount code, you can get a 5% discount.

You can also try www.vette2vette.com and ask for Jason. I've bought stuff from him before and he's a great guy to deal with.

Anyone know how much I will spend?

I'm going to guess somewhere in the $100 area.

I think the ones at RockAuto are around $40 or $50. When I got mine they had a couple of them one was for auto and the other for manual trans. I called them and they were very helpful. Also, I think all there stuff is OEM.

I've got one from an '87 you can have for free. There should be no difference. Just contact me with an address and I'll mail it to you. It had nothing wrong with it. I just replaced it with a performance prom and when I sold the car years ago I never gave up the prom.

If there is no difference between 86 and 87 I probably can take my brothers, both are auto cars.

Thanks for the offer, and I will let you know.

Whoops, look like I guessed on the higher side.:L:L:L

I do not believe that different year chips will work with each other. A few years ago, Jeff burned a chip for me with an '89 or '90. It would not work, the car would not run right. I sent it back to him and he sent a chip from an '88 to me. That worked perfectly. With the non-'88 chips, the SES light was on and the code said that there was a problem with the PROM.

Well my brother informed me he knows where my stock PROM is, and apparently it works because he put it in his car. I am going to give that a shot to trouble shoot some things. Thanks

It is either yours or mine.

I just PM'd Craig about a PROM I have laying around from a few years ago. Get in touch with him and see what you guys want to do.

Yeah he was telling me what he wants to do, I guess just get a baseline with a stock chip, before he gets one programmed.
