Yes, I know the answer is Bowling Green. However, is that mostly an assembly facility? What do they actually manufacture there? I believe that the entire engine is imported from Canada. Is this correct? Specifically I am growing very curious about the true source of the content of the C5/C6 cars. As I've said on other posts I would still want a C6 if it were manufactured and assembled entirely offshore. However what is the true situation and is there any GM published source for this information? The rear view mirror doesn't concern me but I am interested in the source of: Engine, transmission, rear diff, torque tube, body, seats and seat covering, dash/guage subassembly, stereo center dash subassembly, front suspension components, brakes, wheels, engine electronics and fuel injection, frame ..........

Another contributor stated that he would not buy a vette that was built offshore. Just what is the situation anyway? At what point does is a car built offshore and assembled here? Is GM keeping information about source of components of the vette under wraps? Just curious. The many SS and Z-28 Camaroes I owned over the years from the 67-69 era were all built almost 100% in the USA. My 396's all had a decal that said something like ...built with pride by the Tonawanda Team..... Now the entire GTO is shipped in 10000 miles from Australia.

Just exactly where is that fire breathing LS2 built? And that smooth shifting 6 speed? And those neat cross drilled Z51 rotors? etc. etc. Does anyone know these answers?

LS-2: St. Catharines, Ontario

4L65-E: Toledo, Ohio; Romulus, Mich.; Ramos Arizpe, Mexico (not sure if 'vette autos come from one particular plant)

MM6/M12 are made by Tremec: Queretaro, Mexico with shift/clutch assemblies possibly made in Knoxsville, TN

Many parts like engine controllers, radios, seats, ect are produced by suppliers such as Delphi, Siemens, TRW, etc. Not sure if Lear still makes Corvette seats, but they did in 94-96. And if Dana still makes 'vette rear-ends, they have plants all over the world, but they are probably made in North America, though I'd guess probably not in the US (but just guessing).

Oh, and since the 80's, Camaros and Firebirds have been assembled in Ontario...

OLDGOAT;

You can look at the labels on the underside of the hood, it states what percentage of parts are built in US versus outside of America.

Actually, in St. Therese, Quebec until they were dropped.

By the way, the LS-1 and LS-6 were also made in St. Catharines, Ontario. Many of you may remember the Auto Pact that was signed by President Johnson in 1965.

Obviously, the Auto Pact pre-dated NAFTA, but a comprehensive study of the pluses and minuses of both these agreements will demonstrate positive results for both of our countries.

Am I upset that my daily driver....

...was assembled in Arlington, TX, with an engine manufactured in Mexico? Not in the slightest. It's one of the finest daily drivers I've ever owned.

Am I upset that my weekend driver was assembled in St. Louis?

What do you think? :D

That's right. I didn't think it was Ontario but couldn't for the life of me think of where it was. St. Therese is it. :)

Oh, and I bet some people might be upset their car was made in St. Louis. That plant was apparently one of the worst plants GM ever had. :(

I toured that plant in 1978 (it has since been demolished), and yes it sure was dark and antiquated. However, considering the time frame, I have no complaints about how my '67 left the factory or the fact that it wasn't built on my side of the border. ;)

Hey 67heaven, tell us where your front brakes were made. The left one looks different than the right one.

:eyerole ;LOL ;LOL
