My windshield wipers are not working at times, I assume it is the ground, does anyone know where the ground is located, and to what it is attached on a 1977 L48, every option?
What ground wire is attached to the passenger side frame, right behind the front tire.
The reason why I am asking is because mine is hanging off, but i can't seem to find where it goes.
is this the windshield wiper ground, if so where should I look, to find the other end? if not windshield wiper ground what is it?

BB,
Going by my 68 books, there is a ground wire that attaches to one of the bolts that mount the starter. It is part of the engine wiring harness. It also shows one that bolts in with the starter support bracket that bolts to the engine and the back of the starter
Do you have a black wire that comes out of the wiper motor connector? If so, I would disconnect it and shoot it with an ohmeter and see if it is grounded. If it isn't, I would shoot it and the loose ground to see if thats your problem.
I can think of 2 possibilities for the errant wire. First, if it is a heavy "battery cable" thickness wire, there is often a chassis ground which runs from the starter mounting brace to the passengers side frame under the motor mount.
Second, if it is a thinner black wire, that is the ignition harness ground which mounts under the outer starter motor mounting bolt. That wire has a large eyelet. The starter bolt goes through the eyelet. Often, the wire comes loose from the eyelet, due to heat, wear, etc. Check the 2 bolts that mount the starter to the engine. If you see a large eyelet with no wire under one of them, you've found where that wire goes.
My 69 also has a ground wire which slides onto a clip bolted to the front of the wiper motor. That wire/clip is located "behind" the ignition shielding. Mine often slips off, and my wipers quit working. Hope this helps. Chuck
When mine quit working it was simply a matter of the plug having fallen off the back of the motor. I'm sure you have checked the obvious but I just wanted to mention this possibility.
Had the same problem with my 1980. In determining how to repair I set up a test clip to establish it had a good ground. It didn't so a wire with eyelets was fashioned to run from the wiper motor to the hood latch mounting bolt on the passenger side. The wipers have worked ever since.
