Why not hit Ecklers or Mid-Am for a rebuild kit?

Since so many of the parts are as old as the car, they're failing now and I'm just going to save myself the hassle of a rebuild and buy new. I learned my lesson with buying a used alternator, it pooped less than 6 months later.

Is $163 usually the range that I'll find them at?

I just checked out The Last Detail for the master cylinder and they want $153 for it. But it doesn't specify if it's a Delco or not. Would it be best for me to spend the extra money and go with Delco or am I just paying for the name?

I also checked out Mid America and they wanted $260 for it and it's deemed "temporary shortage" on the supply.

I wanted to stay away from Mid America and Eckler's because they're so expensive.

Has anyone ordered before from The Last Detail? How are they to deal with?

Personally I bought a kit to rebuild the M/C for 9.99 works like a new one and I saved a bundle....

Edmond; Call them up they should only have Delco unit's they buy up old stock from GM. Speak to Sam he will help you out good luck.

I have bought many parts for my 69 and 85. They are great to deal with, and there prices are not bad.

Edmond just rebuild it. If you casting (Metal) is not scored or cracked why replace it ..really..

You paying da bucks for what you already got. If you want just take it off and send it to a certified tech (Grease monkey) with the rebuild kit of your choice. This will most likely save you 100-150 bucks.

What do they do when they rebuild the unit? Problem is, this is my daily driver so I can't have it down...

Theres a couple gaskets, O-rings and a return spring.

Last time I saw one rebuilt the plunger got a couple new O-rings, new return spring and new gaskets and seals. As long as the reserve isn't cracked or the housing a guy could have it done in no time flat.

Dude you pbly could do it yourself.

This is a great time to flush out the braking system as well.

Yea, put a kit in there. Or pay someone to put a kit in there for ya.
I can think of no reason it should be replaced. A couple springs, a plunger, a couple gaskets, all the moving parts to a master cylindar are in a kit.
(Heck, I rebuild master cylindars on 40+ year old cars, and they work like a champ, always!).

Thanks for the referral. I ordered the master cylinder from them on Wednesday and it got to Illinois on Friday. Fast service!

I also picked up a booster from a local store. I figured that I'd best replace both of them and that'll last me 15 more years.
