where can I find a light switch source in my '85? Im looking for a source that will let my tranny temp & fuel pressure guage know when the headlights come on.

I suppose I could run the guage lights all the time via ignition switch but if I can find a switchted light source i'de rather use it.

That may not offer dimming.. I would also try to find the Dimming Lead off of the head light switch. I don't have my manual here at work with me. but that is how I wired my gauge

I think the gray wire on the stereo plug will give you a dimming power source. If is is not the gray wire use a test light on the bigger stereo plug to find the dimming power source wire, you cain´t hurt ne thing on this plug.

That one should do it. Check the voltage with a meter with the lights on...it should vary with the dimmer knob. If I remember correctly that same wire should also go to the illumination lamps for the heater/AC controls as well as the lamps for the shifter position (if it's an auto).

Oh damn I forgot that one. If it is an Auto there should be an extry set of wires down there in the shifter. They are a dash light and ground wire. Sorry don´t rember the color code, but it is the only free plug down there.:duh

Colors

The Gray .5mm wire is the +feed from the dimmer..... and just take the other side to ground.

Vig!

everything is wired up. Thanks! I did have to up one of the fuse ratings from 10a to 15a because the fuse in the fuseblock blew when I turned on the lights. Im not worried about dimming as my interior lights are always as bright as possible.

Be EXTREMELY cautious when increasing fuse ratings! You need to be absolutely sure that the size of wire used in that circuit can safely handle 15A. Chances are you'll be ok...but just keep your "nose" open for any burning smells.

Whoa! Where did you tap into? You don't want to be blowing fuses because of the measily draw a couple of gauges make. I think I might look for a different power source if that is the case.

The light source has now been switched to the grey stereo wire and i've got the 10a fuse back in.
