Since my tranny wont be in for another week and a half, i came up with some extra cash i wasnt expecting(first tax refund ive ever had) and i was thinking maybe adding some more CI's...... i have a 350 block bored .30 over and was wondering what really goes into a 383? i have the stock rods (shot peened and reconditioned, 5.7) and kieth black hyper pistons (350-5.7 of course .30 to match block) as im understanding (mostly from lack of info) all i need is a 400,383 crank...... a 400 balancer.......... a 400 flywheel..... ? even if its not 383, can i do that? a 400 crank, balancer, flywheel in a .30 over 350? what would that make me?

i want to try to order a new crank, and extras today or this weekend so i can get the block done when the tranny gets here......

Thanks!
Tony george

There is more than one way to make a 383.

The pistons and rods are specific though as they end up matching up with the 400 cid crank shaft. Sounds like you would have to e-bay off your current pistons and rods to make it work, or at least you pistons to get new ones with the pin location moved for the correct stroke.

383 is highly rec.! One issue you have is the stock TPI was designed for a 305 & will not really provide enough for a 350, much less a 383. Since your TPI is mod., what rpm can you turn on the 350? Expect less rpm on a 383.
