Who Uses What With Meguiars System ?
I'm confused :crazy

I think I am going to go with the Meguiar's products but they have 3 different lines.

1) Gold Class
2) Medallion
3) Professional

I ran their web site recommendation page and got one for the Pro and one Gold products.

I priced them out and the pro series is about $51
* Glaze Hi Tech Wash
* Mirror Glaze Fine Cut Cleaner
* Mirror Glaze Show Car Glaze
* Medallion Premium Paint Protector
* Mirror Glaze Final Inspection
add another $10 for the clay bar

The Gold Series is about $38
* Gold Class Premium Car Wash
* Scratch X
* Deep Crystal System Polish
* Gold Class Clear Coat Wax
* Quik Detailer & Clay Bar

So what is the difference? I called Meguiars and the person I got didn't have a clue.
Obviously the Professional stuff is just that and cost more but what makes it "better" or worth the extra money??

Any tips or ideas of what to get as a kit so I can start my winter project

I have been reading a lot on this subject here.
Seems to me that Zanio is the most liked followed by Meguiars.
Due to the fact Meguiars is half the cost of Zanio has determined that I will go with Meguiars for now.

My new baby is Black Rose.
Previous owner drove it all summer and left it outside so it has water spots.
Looks like I am going to need that 3M stuff 39009??
Other than the spots it is in nice shape.
I hope to get rid of them and make this baby shine :cool

Any thought, opinions, what ever, just post it here. I will be back to see what you all think before I buy the package.

Thanks for listening to my long winded question.

I don't have any experience with the Medallion line, but it's supposed to be more durable than Gold Class and supposedly attracts less dust.

Sometimes wax will take out the spots, and I've heard vinegar sometimes can, although I haven't used it. If you need swirl remover, 3M does make two kinds for light/dark cars, but I don't know the p/n. ScratchX is pretty aggressive. I tried it on a black clearcoat/basecoat vette and it caused more problems than it solved.

You might also want to consider trying Liquid Glass. Like Zaino, it's not a wax so it's a little more durable. Like Zaino and unlike Meguiar's Gold Class, it can also be layered. Unlike Zaino, you can get it at most stores, and it runs around $18-20 dollars. It doesn't take a lot of product to do a car.

Another option, anyway. Different preparations seem to work differently on different cars and colors. Perhaps someone with a car like yours can be more helpful.

I normally use their professional line. However, I do have the Medallion Leather Cleaner and Conditioner and have been happy with that.

I have experience with Zaino & Meguiars. Many here on the CAC know I will only use Meguiars from now on. Zaino make a good product but it will never touch the 82 again.

Iv'e tried both lines of Meguiars with excelent results, however, after meeting a great guy in Meguiars R&D, I follow his suggestion:

Wash in Dawn
Clay Bar
Gold Class Wash
#3 Machine Glaze
#26 Yello Wax
#34 Final Inspection

I'm a happy camper with these products.

Thank you for this tip as I am still on the fence as to which brand to go with :crazy

What was it about Zaino that you didn't like?
What was the reasoning behind the Meguiars R&D guy's recomendations?

Just when I decided what to do the whole world changes !

Appreciate the help

Zaino is not a bad product - it's just not for me. Here is my story:

I was happy with Meguirs once and just thought I'd try something else. In the end, I do not remember why Claude with Meguiars made the above suggestions. I was too happy to care.
Clause made my original paint look like new again. I even bought a Porter Cable orbital polisher like his.

I'm a long-time Meguiars fan, ever since my '92 coupe. If you've got water spots, chances are that those are caused by acid rain, and waxing ain't gonna get that out. You may be able to sand and polish out the lighter blemishes, but that's getting pretty serious - better left to a professional (like a paint shop, not a detailer weenie). I've sanded and polished (with orbital polisher and using 3M compound solution) a few times. The first time I did it (on my black truck) I destroyed the paint. :eek The second time was on my BMW, and I used less agressive grit paper and did much better. Never took the paper to the 'vettes, but I have done some agressive compounding to remove scratches. My Porter-Cable polisher rules for doing this. I can't imagine doing it by hand.

As a guess, I'm going to say that Meguiars' professional line is for machine application and the other stuff is for hand application. Stick with the basic numbering system and you should be OK.
