Who's Got A Mask?

Okay...
I go to put my brand new mini mask on my newly and beautifully repainted car and whathefudge?!!!! The thang don't fit!!! Yeeeesss..., its a 'thang' now.

I expected a bit of stretching, but I don't think Schwartzenegger could pull this thing across the front bumper. And it attaches using the wheel well skirt screws. Oh man..., didn't see that one coming.
Any advice? Anybody?

Ya didn't get the early version of the mask did ya? Do the side marker lights line up?

I got one a while back. Took some time to get it pulled on there correctly. I didn't like the way the wheelwell atachments were so I removed the screws attaching the wheelwell and side panel. Then I took the metal bands (inside the velcro tabs) and folded them around the side panel, pulled nice and tight, and resecured the screws. The lower string attachments are a pain also. I wasn't going to be removing mine for a while so I took off the lower airdam tied up the mask then reattached the airdam. Probabally didn't need to do this but now you don't notice the strings hanging. Once I got it on and it had a few days to warm up / stretch I went back and snugged the attachment points.

No. I've got the right one according to my year and body style. The lights align correctly. It just seems the bra is about 6" too short when pulled across the front.
Like I said, I figured some stretching was involved in order for it to be snug. But undoing the wheelwell screws and stretching this thing into place is gonna be a bigger job than I thought. Guess I'll do one side and just start pulling, hoping the bra will stretch on over to the wheelwell enough to start attaching screws back into place.
Maybe I'm just not strong enough. Plus, you mean to tell me I have to remove this thing everytime I wanna detail the car? :W Sheesh.

I guess I got lucky I had a little trouble and frustration installing it ecspecially (with mine) the crappy way that it wanted to attach with velcro over the top of the nose. I wish I knew who the manufacturer was, cause I'd buy another one for when this one gets worn out.

Mine has hooks that bolt on where you are talking about screwing it in, and as I recall maybe a couple bungies or something like that underneath, no ties. I finally pulled (stretched) the top side taught, wraped it around the fiberglass on the topside and forced around 4 peices of 3/8" automotive hose to wedge it between the fiberglass and the sheetmetal there. Perfect, never moves. All the lights line up nicely. I just love the damn thing :cool

This is a job best done on a HOT summer day. Try a couple hair driers, might make it doable, but it really needs to be warm.

My suggestion is, if you're gonna put it on, do it, and leave it. Plan on repainting the nose when (if) you ever take it off.

I agree with Moonunit. A hot day is good for fitting lots of parts like weather seals. Just a thought.... wifey bought our 86 a stretch bra from MAD. It wasn't cheap ($150) but it fits tight, looks right and doesn't beatup the finish. And you can wash it in the clothes wash!

This is a job best done on a HOT summer day. Try a couple hair driers, might make it doable, but it really needs to be warm.

My suggestion is, if you're gonna put it on, do it, and leave it. Plan on repainting the nose when (if) you ever take it off.

You put on a bra to protect the front of the car and then have to paint it when you take it off ??? If that's the case Why bother?

Cause I ain't gonna take it off every time I was the car, which is what's required to keep the paint good. My paint sucks anyway. I put it on cause it looks awsome Glenn

I don't see masks on cars anymore, maybe it was an 80s thing. I had one on my triple black c4 convertible and it looked great. The problem is you have to remove the thing every time you wash the car, otherwise the dirt and dust build up underneath the mask and create abrasions in the paint, it looks awful. The mask looks nice though. There was a time years ago when they were called "bras", but I guess some overly sensitive people put an end to that.
