Why are C4 prices so low?

Life's too short to be unhappy.

No. life's too long to be unhappy.

By the way, I lived in "NERK" for a year while working for an aerospace company assigned to Newark AFS way back in 1971.

IMO part of the problem is that there are alot of C-4's out there in very rough condition and when people go to sell these cars they have to let them go at a very low price because of the extremely high cost of restoring the car back to respectable condition. These low asking/sales prices bring down the value across the board and will even hurt the value of one in excellent condition because as the general consumer shops the internet and newspapers they see these abnormally low prices on some cars and then they see one at fair market price and don't understand that the low priced car is priced low for a reason (high restoration cost) and they expect you to discount your nice car to the price range of the basket case cars because the "picture" looks the same on the internet. I know this from the sad experience I had selling my 88 coupe. I had to give the car away ($5,000) because it needed a paint job. The rest of the car was excellent, it even had new tires and ran like a madman, sweet car. I swore to myself I would NEVER sell it for so cheap but after over 6 months of advertizing I finally caved and let her go to a very good home.
The good news is that if you don't already own a C-4 you are in luck because you can buy an awesome car for a very reasonable price. Big bang for the buck!

I'm currently looking at a 92 yellow C4 with 67,000 miles. Any idea on the value of such a car? It's in very good condition, but I have to look it over more closely.

they're asking $13k.

I agree there are numerous cars produced. The problem is that the quality differs. In the Netherlands a lot of cars are bought to go around for a spin and sell after a year or 2. No maintenance what so ever. The very well maintaned cars suffer from those in pricing. Keep those in your pocession and wait, in the end they will grow in price. However we've bought them for the fun, not as an investment. If you want to have fun and earn some money, put them in a container, don't drive with them and open the container in 20 years...even the Edsel is now a rare collectors item!
