Why do people tailgate Corvettes?

Its bad out here in the Phoenix area. For the most part I have become immune to the tailgaters. Its not worth the ticket to race a p.o.s. wannabe racer. But I sometimes dream of locking up the brakes, while in my truck that is.

Great thread!

Thanks for bringing this back from the dead.

I dont think it is any different here in WI than it is anywhere else. I live in the south part of the state and drive a major highway to work 15 miles. This is the main arttery from IL into WI. Now we like all of the IL people (some call them FIB's and FIBTAB's)comming up here and spending money but once they cross the state line, I think many disengage the brain.

I dont notice it so much in my expedition, probably because I sit up higher etc, but in my Vette I do notice it, espesially with the top down. You look up and there is an SUV wight were the back seat would be if I was driving my truck. My question is: "where the hell are you going to go? I have someone in front of me, they have somone in front of them and there is a car in the right lane doing 64 1/2." Back off already, the WI Dells will stiill be there! What sares me is when it is a FIBTAB, and a lady is driving her lexus SUV with a lap dog helping her drive. How in the heck are you going to stop?

P.S, the car in thr right lane going under the speed limit usually has Minnesota plates :L

Most of the time it's a truck.

I really think they are trying to look at the guages and trying to see what it's like to be behind the wheel and look over the hood of a Corvette

... morons

d bags all over the place

just today i took my 80 vette for a quick spin between thunderstorms, been stuck inside for days cause of heat, asthma problems..

hadn't gone 2 miles before a big black dodge truck, newer style, probably a hemi roid, didnt notice, got right on my tail... i hit the brakes twice real fast, didnt even phase the boy, stayed on my tail.

I pulled over a lane and let him pass, got behind him and tailgated his punk butt... he found a green left hand turn light and beat it fast, of course that was after he took a look in the vette and saw me.

So, it was funny to see the boy run like a rabbit when he got his own treatment back.

usually I'm a calm guy, but don't mess with my vette, that's just not cool.

Around here in SW OK, it really doesn't matter what kind of car you're in - folks tailgate like crazy. I could be in a primer gray Aries K car and someone would tailgate me or fail to move into the left lane as I merged into the highway.

As for the comments about "ricers," many of them are valid, especially as it concerns spoilers. I re-build and re-furb sport compacts as a serious hobby. Whenever a young person brings me a car (it's usually a Civic/Integra/RSX, Neon, Focus, or the like) one of the first things he/she will talk about is a huge rear wing. "Why do you want that?" I always ask. "For more downforce in the corners." he/she always replies. "Show me your transmission." I ask. He/she opens the hood and points to one side of the engine compartment. "You have a front wheel drive car," I say, "You want a large wing in the rear that's going to push the back of the car down. If you push the back of the car down, you take downforce away from the front wheels, which do all the work. Since the wheels that put power down have less downforce, you will actually be slower through the corners." I then go on to recommend a front spliter instead, which will provide more down fore to the wheels that do the work. For some, it's a come to Jesus moment. For others, it's kinda like watching a neon bulb flicker into life. But an unfortunate few never get it. But hey - it's their money and the customer is always right.

haaa classic

ref to: It happens to me almost every time I take her out. The other night, as I was going to pick up my daughter from work, this guy in a beemer plasters himself on my rear bumper. All I could see was face in my rear view. So------ I just gradually came to a complete stop, which completely stopped him. The funniest part was watching him squealing away at high speed. Oh- forgot to mention- when I finally caught up to him, he was pulled over by an Edison cop. Justice done

Ah sweet justice :upthumbs

They can't keep up with my super torqie 87, i just bought it, duno why its so darn torqie torqie, peels rubber at lights if you just hit the gas pedal normally, so I have to really ease into it, kind of very gently hit gas pedal from lights and stop signs because around here, cops give you tickets for laying rubber at stops, if they see you.

but my 1980, well of course, that's no racer, so until i put in a nice 350 hp beast engine in there, or 400hp maybe, hmmm :cool

people do like to tailgate the 80 and although I can get away if I wanted to, I just mostly let them cause other day, one guy drove up next to me as asked me, "wanna trade?" and I laughed.. numerous times people pull up next to me to ask what year it is, people walk over at gas stations to check it out, ask year and all that... complete strangers... I even get old ladies at gas stations giving me the old smile and eye, then they ask me about the car ...lol :chuckle

so, hey, its an attention getter, the 1980 really gets a lot of attention, more than my c4, but the c4, well, that technology is so superior to the 1980, wow. I used to have an 88 but it wasn't really as torqie as this 87 and the 88 had a chip in it. Sold that in Nevada. Had a 79 and an 81, the 81 was nice, I used to get notes on the windshield in the colllege parking lot about how nice the car was, handscribbled notes from I don't know who...lol;shrug

none of those notes had phone numbers on them though :ugh

anyway, vettes get attention, always have and always will:thumb
