I just recently bought my first vette , love it!Didn't notice when I bought it the left rear is about an inch lower than the right rear I've been under the car , nothings bent & the spring bolts are at the same adjustment. It has 55,000 & the original Z51 shocks.Any ideas would be GREATLY apreciated!!!!:confused :confused

I'm sure others will chime in here, but this isn't all that unusual, most Vettes are off, and it usually takes us guys a while to realize it. I'm not sure there's a real fix, This has been discussed before, and my recollection is that it can be addressed, but it'll probly never be "just right".

A full inch seems excesive though. You can mess with the rear bolts to try and straighten it out, but I didn't have much luck in my case. I think that someone who is a serious roadracer on closed tracks could tell us how to fix the problem though, and I really don't know of any on the forum, at least in C4.

Welcome to the forum :w

My 73 is about a 1/2 inch lower on the passenger side before and after replacing the rear spring....sits almost two inches higher with the new spring and still is off about a 1/2 inch. Did not notice it when I first bought it but after looking at it in different positons it started to bother me. Thing is I don't think anybody else notices it except for me...I wouldn't worry about it

I have an idea that you may have a bad shock.....if you have the time and tools switch both rear shocks and see if it leans the other way.. If it does replace both rear shocks... do not replace just one....it will not ride correct because of the wear..

and welcome to the CAC

We tend to be more crucial of our cars then anyone else. Mine is off by about a half inch. Mine also sits no where near the height of my brothers 87. I guess the spring strength, and maybe the shocks, or what about the guy looking at it.:)

I doubt anyone else will see, however if it bothers you too much, I am sure with a little time, you will figure it out.

How/where are you measuring this?

I'm skeptical about "cleaners attacking the spring". As a part of the underside of the car, the springs are subject to a wide array of anything and everything that the elements can throw at them, as well as anything dripping down from the engine: coolant, oil, p/s fluid, etc, not to mention brake fluid. With all these things in mind, a litte bottle of wheel cleaner is not going to compromise the structural integrity of the spring or cause it to delaminate or deform.

Thanks alot fellows just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with it.I had somebody else tell me to mess with the spring adjustments (carefully ) I was measuring from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender.May replace back shocks but I swear they feell fine , both have the same resistance & are not leaking.

On mine, I measured the gap between the top of the rear tire and the lip of the wheel well opening. I have a three-finger gap on the right, and two fingers on the left.

That's how it's done alright. :CAC
The proper way to measure the ride height is to measure from the frame down to a flat level surface as the service manual describes NOT from the tire to wheel opening.

Check it out for your self smarty, thats how a good alignment shop would do it.

Thanks wraddad that is how I measured mine & on one side I had a three finger gap & on the other I had a two.

Ride height lower on the driver side is usually from spring fatigue over time. Since the weight of the driver poses an additional load on the left rear spring. Probably putting new shocks will not help. Adjusting the spring bolts will level out the body, but the spring rate will be different because the spring is already fatigued. The sure fix is to replace the spring and shocks and level the body(and Datum points on the frame) to the proper numbers. I like the 3-finger measurement myself(but then I have small fingers:L ).
