For touring, wouldn't the wider tires of the GS be a negative like in rain and heavily wetted asphalt roads? Also I see they are rated "summer only" ( C7 ). Again, that would be a plus for track but not touring where the temps might dip down below freezing? Wouldn't a regular Stingray with Z51 be a better choice for "touring American" by corvette with it's narrower tires and not rated "summer only"? Am I missing something here?

That's logical. When you watch World Rally stuff, you'll see that they use narrower tires in the winter.
I use the same Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on my 427 Vert and I generally slow down some when it's raining.
The drawback to narrow tires on the GS is that they would not look right.

Michelin will be making the A/S3 in GS/ZO6 sizes before the end of the year and they are an all weather tire that should handle the rain much better than the PSS.

Since I use my 427 Vert more for road trips and touring, I'm leaning toward getting a set of the A/S3 tires when the PSS's are gone and in the correct size - not narrower.

If your looking for traction I'd check on All Season .Michelin sport AS was available for my C6 at the same price as summer .Look at tire rack for availability . The tires I have work well during minor floods and up to 39 inches of snow :thumb

Yes, you are.

The '17 Grand Sport was developed as a track-ready car, thus, it comes with "summer" tires.

If you are going to drive a Corvette in cold weather or in wet weather, the C7 Grand Sport is probably the wrong car for you.

My C6 Z06 and GS were good year round cars AFTER I got rid of the OEM Super Sports. The factory tires were as worthless as you might imagine on the road during heavy rain and when the weather turned really cold. After changing to an all-weather tire I had no problems in rain, cold or very light snow. If you want to seriously track the GS, and tour in all kinds of weather, you'll need 2 sets of tires.

The Stingray is not exactly a wet, cold weather demon (as you expect), and the results are very much like my C6. I can't wait to get all weather rubber on it, but I'll wait until the OEMs go away.

Update. FYI
I just drove a '16 Z06 in pouring rain, rain standing on the freeway, streams of water running across the freeway. Cruise off and "wet" mode on the selector. 80 mph (the speed limit) with no problems of any kind. I have never driven a car that handles the way this car does; not even close. I took a 90 degree corner the other day with this car and no squealing of tires. My '80 squeals the tires on the same corner like you can't believe. What a car!
