Hi all well my rear brakes have been lightly sticking when stopping making a sort of creaking noise on my 75 convertible. Also on take off they stick (if they stuck going into the stop) but soon release and all is peachy
Ive got it narrowed down to exactly the driving conditions when it happens, (and THIS IS WIERD!!!),when the car heats up to normal opperating condition (approx 180) and when I am braking with the wheel turned left or right, and you dont need to make a big turn either just a slight turn will make it happen. If I brake in a straight line it doesnt do it at all.
So far Ive swapped out the flex lines, rear calipers, pads, power booster, proportioning valve, and flushed and bled about a dozen times, BTW I dont have the clips installed from the flex lines to the hard lines at the moment.
Ive brought it by some shops and so far no one has any idea whats going on.
So any suggestions?
Glenn

Welcome to the CAC Glenn,

I've got to wonder if this is a brake problem at all. Maybe it's a driveshaft/wheel bearing thing. Perhaps even something to do with the suspension bushings or the shocks. Either way I find it hard to see how the brakes can be causing the creaking noise you describe.

I know this isn't much help; I guess I'm just suggesting you might not be looking in the right place.

Glenn,

have you checked your rotor run-out, wheel bearing slack and rotor thickness?? if the rotor is wobbling from excessive run-out or loose wheel bearings with a worn (thin) rotor, you can end up with the caliper pistons cocking sideways in the calipers. this will keep them from returning and releasing the brakes. try getting the brakes to drag, then back-up. if they pop free easily with no creaking, this is maybe what's happening. long shot, but all i can think of that hasn't been covered. good luck, Brian

Mabey try changing the diff fluid with a couple bottles of GM posi additive?

i am with Brusso, i believe it's in the Differential. mine has the same problem. i r/r'd the fluid but used an aftermarket additive. most of the noise disappeared. but it's still there slightly.
on my list is to use my new evacuation pump and do it right ,this time with GM fluids~
