Will early C3 rocker panels fit on a '82?

Just wondering if anyone has installed the '77 and earlier shiny Rocker Panels on a '78 and later model. Is is just a paint difference or are from a different mold?

I've looked at various catalogs, just hard to make out. Even wondering if the bolt pattern is the same or if there will be a fit issue.

Looking to add more of a touch of chrome/shiny to my '82.

One thought was to get a used sets of '82 rockers and buff out the satin black while keeping my originals safe for the option to go back to a stock look.

Any thoughts?

The 79 and earlier rocker panels are 1" longer than the 80-82.
May present some front tire clearance issues.
Remove the paint and buff em out.

My '81 has silver panels. I never really noticed that they are a little long until mkapp7879 just mentioned it. But they fit fine with no clearance issues. They were already on it when I bought it.
