window fogging up.

From day one my windshield would fog up all the time when driving. If i would let my car sit overnight the while windshield would be fogged up in the morning and id have to wipe it off. When im driving i have to put on the fan for a few minutes to get rid of it. The weird thing is that somtimes steam would come in through the vent on the top of the dash near the windshield. I figured it was maybe the humidity for a few days here butit cant be that. Any ideas how to stop this? Or is that normal?

Does sound like the heater core. Being you are in Canada, you will want to fix it before winter. You can bypass the heater core.

So the heater core is making it steam like that? I dont drive it in the winter so i dont need heat. How do i bypass it?

On the pass. side of the engine compartment you will see two hoses running into two pipes, which then run into the firewall. (not the threaded AC hoses) Remove the two hoses and loop the two hoses togther. Or trace the two hoses and run a seperate hose from the waterpump to the inlet in the back of the block where the other hose leads you.

I was thinking maybe one of the vacum operated doors might be stuck open after the car is shut down.

The other possibility is blocked drains in the cowl (Black rubber tubes at either end) or the 'suitcase' drain for the AC condenser. Is your passenger side carpet wet?

If it was the heater core, it would stink like coolant... any smell?

considering no smell was mentioned, I would go for something not operating properly with the vac. doors, or just the vac. in general

Is the condition the same with the a/c on and off; heat on/off; how about the defroster? does that solve the problem or just add to it?

When you floor the car with the A/C on, does the air redirect to the defroster or floor vents instead of the main vents? if they do, you have a vac. leak.

No coolant smell - I'm leaning toward the plugged drains.

Leaves and other trash get in the AC/heater ducting via the fresh air vents in front of the wipers and can plug up the water drains.

if i put the defrost on cold it clears it up. I havent tried flooring the car with the ac on so im not sure about that, but i will try it.


i hope its just plugged. Is it easy to clean it all the vents out?

What about if it fogs up with the windows closed on a hot day? No it's not condensation/ambient temp. Mine always gets bad in the Summer. I clean them{all glass} and if it's really hot, 2 days later I'm cleaning again!! This is driving me crazy!! I don't do windows!!!

When you say you see steam, do you actually see something BEFORE it hits the windshield or are you just reporting added condensation forming on the windshield?

The HVAC system blows air through the defrost vents for something like 15 seconds at startup if it deems the outside air temp cool enough. This is to rid the evaporator housing of any moisture. This can usually result in some harmless moisture on the windshield and then it goes away quickly.

Coolant would have smell to it and if you wiped your finger on the windshield it would feel extra slippery.
