The windows on my 85 coupe are very slow. I was looking at new motors for the windows at RockAuto and they have them with a 9 tooth gear and a 12 tooth gear. Does anyone know what the difference is between these? Will one run the window up and down faster than the other? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

I'm sure someone out there has replaced there C4 window motor/regulator. I'm trying to find out what the diference is between the 9 tooth and 12 tooth gears in the regulator as sold at RockAuto for and 85 coupe. I emailed RockAuto and have yet to receive a reply. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Window lift motor

I didn't know there were two different motors for the same year - and you're correct. On-line parts catalogs list both 9 and 12 toothed units.
I replaced the window motor in a '95 Blazer and it was one of the biggest pains I ever encountered. Mine failed because the circuit breaker inside the motor went open circuit and the motor wouldn't work at all.
If you can check the window's alignment in the door and lube the 'regulator' mechanism (that's the linkages that lift the window) with 'Lubriplate', you can probably return to faster operation without having to remove and replace the motor. The motor is riveted in and must be drilled out. Then use small bolts to reattach the new motor as the factory rivets are bigger than what most hardware stores have.
And be ready for lots of nicks to your hands.

Thanks for the info. I've read a few threads on this site about the slow motors in the early C4's and figured if I have to removethe door panel to get to the motor, I might as well upgrade the motor to a faster one. I looked at the web site to do the upgrade and it does look like a lot of work, but doesn't mention anything about which motor is the upgrade or where to get it at. Thanks again.
