Okay, this may seem to be a silly question, but, while I am working on everything I can find wrong in the Vette, I cannot do anything about it til I get back off TDY, a strange thing has happened. My drivers door window goes down really quickly, but goes up at a reasonable speed. The spring on the center of the 'X' where the window mech crosses is now laying in the bottom of the door. Is there a way to reinstall that spring without totally dismantling the door? Everything still works fine, but I have heard rumors that this will eventually cause accelerated wear of the gears in the window motor.

Eagerly awaiting replies

Cheers All

Richard,

The door is going to have to come apart. It's not really that difficult. Zip had posted the instructions for repair of the window regulator but at least parts of it apply here as well. They have since taken it down but I had a copy and have scanned it in and put it on my web site. Take a good look at the spring. It is probably broken or wouldn't have fallen apart.

I just did this to my drivers door this spring ( excuse the pun) the door has to come apart, the motor has to come out and you need to wind the spring to align the flang, motor and x arm, then swing the x arm back into place which "winds" the spring and creates tension.

Put the window all the way up, tape the window in place ( up position) and start taking it apart. the hardest part as I remember was actually extracting the x arm and motor from the door. I tried to do it in the door and it is not possible unless you are a circus contortionist with 9 inch fingers of steel !!!!!
