has anyone converted their window from electrical operation to a manual crank unit? i am growing weary of the wiring and motor problem with mine.

drive fast, live hard, die happy

I would think that fixing the electric windows would be easier and less costly than replacing them with manual actuators, particularly since you'd have to either punch holes in your interior, or buy a whole new coor panel.

What sort of problems are you having with the electric windows? Maybe there's an easy fix...

Joe

my driver's window goes down fast, almost too fast. then is really sloooow going up, sometimes stopping.
i have put in a new motor, and grease all the gears. the spring is in good condition.
i have to replace both door panels ,so holes for the crank isn't an issue.

if you ain't the lead dog, the view never changes

Certainly sounds like a bad spring. I know from experience how hard it is to look inside the door, so maybe the spring is not connected to the right points? Or the central "hub" that it mounts to might be broken? (it's been a while since I looked in there, but isn't the split bar that holds the center of the spring a bolt of some sort? maybe it's come loose and is able to swivel)

Joe

joe, just had a thought could the spring be working backwards? does it control the down or up mode?

robin

Possibly. The spring is always working. It counter-balances a large portion of the weight of the window, so that the motor doesn't need to be the size of a starter to move it up, and to lower it at a reasonable speed.

I'm not sure if the motor would even be able to raise the window, at all, if the spring were in backwards. It's worth a look, though.

Window problem

You may just have a felt out of place on the track that goes up it may be binding or the piviot on the arm is wore out and metal to metal. Watch it as it raises and be sure that nothing is moving sideways before the glass starts up. Your problem may be as simple as something not adjusted quite right. the window will go down easier due to gravity but I have seen many act like yours. Watch the rubber at the front of the door where the window rubbs and alligns.
