Hi.
Windshield developed an long U shaped crack, on my c490 coupe.
Consequently I want to replace it.

Does anybody know what something like this cost.$$

Is it advisable to attempt to do it myself?? Or does it require a professional auto glass place to replace it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Tom.

Check with your insurance agent. In my state (SC), your insurance company is required to a replace a broken/cracked windshield.

same in Florida... ususally the insurance picks it up everywhere. the last thing they want is an accident because the person can't see

C4 windshields can be very expensive to replace. You can easily spend $800 - $1000. Not only do you have to replace the glass itself, but usually you will have to replace the weatherstripping the goes around the windshield frame, the left, right, and top surround mouldings, and the left and right weatherstrip retainers. The reason why you have to replace all this other stuff is that it gets destroyed when you remove it to replace the glass. If you try to reuse the old parts, you will probably end up with bad water leaks around the A pillars. The surround moldings and weatherstrip retainers have sealing material attached to them that gets destroyed when you remove them.

Be careful when you get quotes. Most of the glass places I talked to weren't familiar with Corvettes and so they quoted me one price on the phone but when it came time to order the parts they had to requote at a much higher price

Take a look in TLD's catalog for an idea of what the parts cost.

Good luck!
