We have a 2001 C5 that is being put away fro the winter. It will not be in a heated garage. I have heard conflicting reports as to whether or not I should keep a trickle charger on it or just start it and let it run regularly. I know the battery should remain in the car.
Thanks for any feedback.

Charge the battery to be sure it's fully charged. A fully charged won't freeze, a discharged battery will. Be sure the battery is clean and dry on the outside.

Don't know why the battery should be left connected, unless you don't want to lose your radio pre-sets....<G>. Any learned memory in the ECM which is lost will be re-learned right after you start up.

Disconnect the cables and wait for spring!!!

The use of a Battery Tender Plus will keep your battery fully charged without overcharging. It will go into a "float" or safe mode when the battery is fully charged. DO NOT USE A TRICKLE CHARGER!

Battery Tender Plus is a brand name that you can look up & do reasearch on. I bought mine last year and had it hooked up to my battery all winter.

Do not start the vette unless you are going to get it hot and drive it. Starting it up will do more harm then good; condensation in exhaust, oil, etc... If you start it, drive it for a few miles to get all fluids hot and any moisture out of engine / exhaust.

The battery tender looks like the way to go. It sort of explains my battery problems the last couple of winters even with other vehicles.
Thanks for the tip .

Mike
