Hi, new to the site so please bear with me. I had a problem with my rear lights so I decided to work on it. The wiring harness had been modified and I wanted to wire the lights like they should be. I have the blinkers/hazzard/reverse lights all working correctly. The problem is my tail(running)lights are not working. I have a brn wire that runs from the headlight switch to the rear harness where it ties in parallel with the park lights and marker lights. If I jumper it to the battery they all light up.
My fuse for the tail lights blows immediately when I put it in the fuse block. If I do a continuity check from the black wires and the brown wires I get continuity. Also my instrument lights dont work. Any ideas :confused

Welcome to the CAC. My first recommendation is to get the Assembly Instructiom Manual and Service Manual (most vendors have them) They have the wiring diagrams and are a godsend to any DIYer.

Do the lights work when the brake is depressed. Is the problem when the headlights are turned on?

...My fuse for the tail lights blows immediately when I put it in the fuse block....

Not to overstate the obvious, but you have a short. Possibly the brown; the black is a ground.

Check the IP light fuse. If that doesn't solve the problem, check the main dash harness ground under the dash on the driver's door hinge post. A flashlight will help - it's dark up there.

The rheostat in the light switch could be bad. They fail with age.
