1989 Callaway Twin Turbo Aerobody Coupe
Please read - important To all that are interested in this upgrade I am meeting with the Callaway People on Dec 23. I will need to know who wants one. If you snooze you will lose. The chance to have one after this offering will be hard being that they need to make several of the in order to make it cost effective for them. We are getting these made .and it will be for those who order them now. This is the best upgrade that you can put on other than having motorwork done. I can not stress enough that if you do not order now you will miss out . Thank you, Peter
The price is $1990 just for the wonderbar it does not include installation

Here is a suggestion, and I certainly do not want to take any business away from callaway and the $1990 deal is a good package that is an ABSOLUTE MUST for a callaway... I Say you would be foolish not to do it as you just dont know what you are missing, and its added value to the car too.......

But if I had to do it again, this is exactly what I would do, and will do to any callaway I have in the future.........

Although I bought wonderbars for both my Callaways and put them in myself many years ago, and have installed others in owners cars too.... After learning what was involved, you can actually take the one you have now and send it to a muffler/welding type shop and do the same thing with it, pretty darn easy. You would need a good photo of an uprgade one if you were not familiar, then its really a no-brainer that you could go to any skilled welder and say... "make this one like that picture" along with handing him the pipe length, diameter and extension... The only dimensions you need. I will testify that all the wonderbars I have put in do not fit exactly and had to be altered a bit to do it, so its not rocket science here and albsolute perfection is not needed to get the power you desire. That nice aluminum part on the original wonderbar goes bye bye anyway with the upgrade and a rubber hose is used in its place.. Quite a bit less quality in my opinion and a waste of a very nice aluminum ducts, but it does work MUCH better this way.

I know I could have my muffler guy in Dallas, modify an original wonderbar to better standards than the ones I spent big bucks at callaway for probably 200-250 bucks.... As I said, I would do it even be better and I would do it larger too, knowing what I know now. That reminds me, I actually have two stock WBs myself that I may modify for grins.

The only other thing is the hose from the "upgraded" wonder bar to the airfilter... Hardware store will do this for a few bucks and is the same thing you get anyway...... You could also do like I did in "ultra slow" an put the cone type filter in..... This is SO much easier and better flowing than that poor box callaway has that uses the 5.0 filter. Man those things are terrible!

Callaway will tell you, up and down that you need to change the WG springs out.... Not a bad idea, but you can actually back them off pretty far and get a lower boost should you want to stay that way....... If you dont want to do this, I am certain the springs can be bought from callaway probably by theirselves saving the majority of the expense.

Just a suggestion.....

Just like Ultra, I too installed a Callaway wonder bar on my 88 Callaway, and like he mentions, you can take your original wonder bar to a muffler shop along with a 3 "mandrel bent 90 degree pipe that will need to be cut and welded onto the wonder bar. All your trying to do is make a smoother path of air flow. The 90 degree aluminum elbow that is original to your car is of smaller diameter plus the air must 1st bounce off the inside wall before it flows into the actual wonder bar.

Pete - Is there a minimum of interested parties needed for this to happen?

I am certainly interested in this and would ship my car to Callaway, as I see them doing the install (along with the paperwork) as a "Value Added" proposition :upthumbs

You are right - This IS the single best thing that you can do to your B2K Callaway Twin Turbo - Thanks for looking into this :beer

Now, Im wondering if I should spend the 2k (I was budgeting $1200) for the upgrade.
Are the two outlets feeding the two turbos modified on the upgraded wonderbar? ie larger outlets?
Is it just the inlet, that is upgraded?

With your description and the upgraded wonderbar already on my '88 I think that I could build it myself.
Thanks for the tip,
Taylor

KEEP IT ORIGINAL WITH CALLAWAY PARTS.

Everybody is talking about the collectability of these cars and keeping them original. An upgradeed part from callaway will only increase the value and performance. So when people post about modifing the car granted it could probably be done cheaper but Callaway parts are the ones to consider when keeping the car ORIGINAL.. I am not making a cent on this I am doing this to get people the sought after upgrades. I am helping keep the Twin Turbo Era alive with support from the Callaway Team. I will be discussing further upgrades with them also for those looking for more power. We must support Callaway Cars Just think of Callaway as the Heart and we the owners are the Blood. If the heart has no blood to pump it has no purpose .Think Callaway when you need parts.

My stock '88 is for originality and my '90 is for playing with. (too late for originality)
How about that 100+ intake manifold? Any news there?
I would find a way to afford that Callaway upgrade.
Thanks,
Taylor

Well I totaly understand about keeping the car "original", and having that "warm and fuzzy" feeling of buying the parts from callaway, as I did just that.... My advice is in retrospect, and I learned the retrospect when Callaway let me down in many ways that I wont get into here.

I know these cars quite well, in fact very well.... Fact is that if you brought me a B2K with a Backyard Billy-Bob Built wonderbar, I could not tell you if it is a callaway part or not if it was done nice. I say this because I have two wonderbars from callaway... Neither look exactly the same, but do the same job. They also have no "majic" mark or code on them.

If you want to buy it because you want callaway to enter some information on your car into their database, so 20 years from now, your prospective buyer will call them up... (if, if and only if they are around and willing to give out this info) and have Callaway tell they that they got a wonderbar... Thats great, but thin.... real thin, and do you think that is really going to be a deal breaker if these cars come back strong one day???? I doubt it...

If these cars say "B2K" thats all that matters along with the fact the car is in nice condition with and decent milage. Having the car original is great. If you have a 100-5000 mile car, I would not touch it in any way, nor would I risk the car to be sent off to callaway for any reason.... In fact I would take the wheels off the car and all the fluids out, jack it up and seal it up for a better day, as today is not that. ... Its GTO, Chevelle, 442 and mid-year Day......

If you have a nice callaway, and as long as you dont get stupid with it, you will be just fine with little things like this, and the wonderbar is not stupid, even if its built by Willie the Welder.

If you got the money and dont mind letting go of it, get yours from callaway on this deal! . If you dont know how to work on cars.... Send the car to Callaway along with a blank check or CC and expect about 2K more to do it. If you cant afford to do this and do not know how to work on the car and do not know someone who really understands the car 100% to do it for you.... DO NOT EVEN DO IT!

Installing a wonderbar is not that difficult, but its not as easy as you may think. If you are a good wrench and want to save some cash.... Modify yours... I can attest that the work is not much more than buying the thing from callaway, reshaping lots of it and putting it on.

The springs are a must, for some reason my car didn't get them. I have my wastegates backed as far out as possible, it barely holds. Get the springs.

You can get a 13lb spring from Turbonetics for $12.

Joe, its just for the 88-90s. However a 91 wonderbar would probably fit your car, b/c of the location of the air intake. You might as Callaway.

Will this upgrade work for the '87 TT's??:bu

Joe- I don't see why it would not work for the '87. When you compare the routing of the air from the factory style air box (even on the 91's) it is virtually identical to the '87. One thing that may be different due to the 87 turbos being different is that the throat diameter of the fresh air intact tracts to the turbos may be slightly different. But, for $2k, I don't think it would be an issue.

Also, the relocation of the MAF and the coolant box is very similar from year to year so this should pose no dilemma.

My 87 has an 88 and later frame piece with the newer turbos and I swear that they re-used the original frame holes in the remaining frame rails. When you think about it.. the 87 and 88 Vettes were very similar minus the B2k option. So, any other accessories and such should not interfere with the update either.

If any of you guys in the surrounding area want to have a Callaway garage party some weekend after the holidays we could do a wonder bar installation "how-to" clinic. Don't bring tools, just bring YUENGLING! ;)

Eric, Is your Mass air sensor still in front of the engine like this one??

How about Turbo Joe's car over at my place this Winter:confused
I see your Yuengling 18 wheeler, daily :beer

yeap, that's what mine looks like for the air routing from the air cleaner, through the MAF and into the frame/turbo ducting. The coolant hose is a little different but no biggie.

Will work for cheap! Yuengling! :beer

Pete - you will have more on this next week, right??

Did you get any input on possible imrovements to the design?? Not sure if they are needed though - Josh's (Surf&Sun's) B2K is an Absolute STEAMROLLER :eek

Keep up posted - And thanks!!!! :beer

Wonderbars are completed.

I recieved a call from Mike Vendetto that the wonderbars are available for order as we speak. When he called he said he was holding mine and it was sitting on his desk. I would suggest that you call and order yours today. It is taxtime and I can't think of a better way to spend a tax return than boosting the power in a Callaway Twin Turbo. I might even buy a second as I am planning on buying another TT . Pete
