won't start

I have a 1994 LT1 base model that won't run, cranks over, new optispark, wires, fuel pump(42 psi) , filter, has pulse @ injectors. it did a freak start twice but no restart since. fuel smell in fuel pump regulator vacumn hose. has spark, all fuses good. the night before it" died " had a "hesitation" going down the freeway when I wanted to accelerate , had to press down on gas pedal to get it to go.next morning ,nothing but crank, made a "diesel " running sound AS IT WANTED TO RUN, BUT THEN DIED.Any help. All codes appear to say ok. used the 4-12 jumper.
