Just replaced all the linkage on my original 4-speed 1969 Chevy corvette. All 4 forward gears seem to work well, but when trying to go into reverse it wont go.

I tried to start it in order to synchronize everything. I tried pushing in the clutch in order to start it but it wont start. Does anybody have any suggestions on what it might be? Would appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks.

Just a suggestion...did you try moving the reverse linkage from under the car?

Sure did it does not seem to move like it did before I replaced it?

Donw,

It sounds like the linkage is not adjusted to the correct length. That would keep your Neutral/reverse switch from engaging, and the starter will not engage.
Dis-connect the linkage and move the shift lever on the tranny until it clicks into neutral, then re-adjust the length of your linkage until the bolt goes into it wihout moving it from that position.
Both linkages need to be in the neutral position for it to shift smoothly, from forward to reverse, and to start.

Donw,

I believe there is a hole in the shifter that you can put a shaft through that will locate the neutral position so that you can adjust the length of both shift rods to the neutral position.
I goes through the side and holds all the shift plates in the neutral position. With that in place you need to manually shift both of the levers on the tranny to neutral and then adjust the lenghth of the linkages so that they fit without pushing the linkages out of neutral.

Define "won't start" - cranks but won't fire, key turns all the way to start but nothing happens, or key won't turn past "on" to "start" (it matters).
