Hey guy's had a question. I have an 89 and i took it to the store the other day and the car started fine at the house i come out from the store and nonthing. The fans come on and i have ignition but she won't crank. My question is because it wouldn't start i rolled it and jumped it and it started right up if it's the VATS will the car still jump or does it kill that too.
Thanks Rich

If you push started it, that eliminates a Pass Key problem.

When you insert the ignition key and turn it to run or start, the security light will go out if the key pellet was read properly.

If the security light stays solid, the starter will be disabled and also the pulsing of the injectors for about 5 minutes before you can try startiing again.

In your case, since you could push start the car, could be the clutch safety switch, starter enable relay, starter or cable problem.

ok thanks so much i will have to start checking

I have a 90 6 speed and I had this happen twice in my garage. I am quite certain it was the clutch safety switch. Where they mount into the bracket and adjust isn't all that solid. I adjusted mine just a little and it hasn't done it in over a yr.

For a while my friend put a indicator

That the power was getting to the started motor solonoid... He wired it up to the clutch switch.. I told him to nail it right down to the starter lug.

He didn't listen

He wouldn't crank 2 out of 5 times when it was hot.. and kept swearing at the Vats.. but WOULD get the light.. even though the starter would not turn.

He spent a LOT of $$$$ & time to prove me wrong. New Vats module, new Key switch,Vats bypass, new clutch switch and MANY hrs under the dash.

If the light lights VATS nor your clutch switch is the problem...

It turned out to be a bad ( crusty ) bulkhead connector

Similar Problem with my 84 Vette

I have had this type of problem for almost 4 weeks.
Vette would turn on in the morning, I drive it work, park it and after 8 hours it would not start, it would just crank. I leave it overnight and in the morning it would start. This went on for 3 days. Until it just died on me while driving to work and had to tow it home. I left it a home for three weeks and would start it every morning.
Two days ago I tried starting it but it just makes sound like: trrrr, trrrr, trrr.
Do you think is the starter/solenoid?

Also, while looking under the dashboard I found some wires hanging loose from three of what look like saucers. Any one knows what these saucer looking things are for and where these wires should connected to?
I tried looking for other loose cables but didn't find any.

Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions.;help

I believe the Trrrrrrrrr sound

Is the lack of juice that the battery can deliver.. the sound is the relays & soloniods pulling in then relaxing due to lack of current.

Can you take a picture of the Saucer?

Vigman is right about the starter sound, you need a full charge on the battery to pull in the solonoid. The other starting problem sounds like a fuel pump that is intermittant. The motor brushes wear down over time.
Perhaps you might want to start a new thread on this. There are a lot of us here that are familiar with the Crossfire L83. I would prefer not to further divert this thread further.
