Last I left it, the car was sitting there, and the hood was across the shop, in primer. Going to be a few days, but this guy does good work, so I expect to be pleased when I get it back.

To summarize everything:

The hood is a "stinger" hood from Vanacor, modeled after the '67 big block hood, but sized and shaped to fit the C3. It is 1-3/4" taller than stock, which should allow for a better intake and air cleaner, as well as a custom cowl-induction setup that I'm working on :)

It's going to be painted to match the car (Corvette Light Beige), and the stripe (find a picture of a '67 big block car, if you don't know what the stripe looks like) will be dark red, to match my interior. The shop mixes their own paint, so everything will be color-matched. The interior of the scoop area will be detailed in gloss black.

I'm itching to see the result...

Plus, I can't finish the mechanical assembly until I get the car back. On the other hand, this gives me a good opportunity to give the garage a thorough cleaning, which I couldn't do with a large chunk of immobile car sitting in the middle of it... (gotta look on the bright side of things :) )

Things are coming along, finally, and I haven't told many people about the new hood not being stock, so I expect to suprise some people :)

Joe,

Sounds great. Make sure you post pictures. I'm excited as well because I love that hood.

Bob

Yea, what bob said. I feel the same way. Something in my
head is telling me to get the same hood. I would really like
to see pictures of this. If anybody knows where i can see a pic on a 80-82 let me know. best of luck to you SHARK.

Better buy some finder skirts to protect that shinny new paint whill your working on her

I'm not 'crazy' about a Corvette in 'Light Beige', but I think a Dark Red 'Stinger-stripe' will really ROCK!!!
:_rock
I hope when you get it back, you'll post some pix here for us Shark-lovers to see! I'm still thinking of this hood, with a 'chrome'/Silver Metallic (chromed OEM wheels), or Dark Red (match my interior), Stinger-stripe, against my Black body...
Until then, I won't tell anybody else about your custom hood; it'll just be 'OUR' little secret.....

The fenders haven't been painted, but... I always use fender covers, anyway :)

Well, it has to be seen to be appreciated. It's really an off-white color. Freshly cleaned and waxed white probably looks a bit better, but this hides road dirt much better. I drive the car on a daily basis (when it's working, anyway :( ), so if I cleaned it as often as I'd have to if it were bright white, there wouldn't be any paint left ;)

I'm dying to see what that hood looks like on a C3. Been thinking about it ever since I got my '79. Please post many pics.

talk about changing the look of the car, the hood is one of the most extreme ways to do that.
Will the stinger hood have a working scoop.

sorry about all the extra pics it was one big picture

No appologies needed. The pics look beautiful. I really like the look of that hood. Now I just need to finish (or maybe I should say start) the engine, suspension, transmission, rear end, A/C, and exhaust work that have priorities right now.

Oh, I didn't mean that as a 'slam'; just personal-preference. I think that the Light Beige/Dark Red color-combo is THE best possible way to improve the looks of that color.
My '82 is Black, and I don't use it often, yet it is ALWAYS dirty/dusty/etc. Black is a beetch; is doesn't hide ANYTHING.....
Love to see your pix when completed!!!

Didn't think you were :)

And yeah, black is very cool, when it's clean. It's just so hard to keep it clean :(

'Hard'? It's damn-near IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean!!!

P.S.: after consulting with my g/f, who does interior decorating, she is in agreement:
Light Beige with a Dark Red 'stinger' will be WAY COLL!!!!
:cool :cool :cool

WOW, nice ass, that sure is different. OH, :BOW thanks for the picture of the hood. :w

Woohoo! again

Saw the car earlier today. A bit dusty, from sitting around a body shop (the car, not the new hood), but I am amazed. I know these guys do great work, but they amaze me every time.

She's coming home tomorrow :)

On the agenda:

#1 Bath.
#2 Pics!

How excited are you...will you be able to sleep? ;)
Heidi :w

#1: Push car up hill into garage (ouch, my freakin' back - it's already sore)

#2: find some way to fix computer connection to camera

#3: lots of pictures

Sleep... well, I better be able to get to sleep. That's the next thing on my agenda, once I sign off from here, and I need to be awake again in five and a half hours, so I can shave and get to work, so sleep is too important to skip :)

It's been a long journey, and I'm sure that push up the driveway is not going to be the most fun I've ever had in my entire life, but it will all be worth it when it's done :D

Thank god I got a good tow truck driver. He was able to back the truck right up to the house, and roll the car into the garage. If not, I think I'd have to hang the monitor on the ceiling to post, because I wouldn't be able to get off the floor.

I have a few pictures, but I'm still working on uploading them to the computer so I can post them.

I am continually impressed by this shop, and the final price was just a hair over half his estimated price, so that was the icing on the cake :)

If anyone in the southern Maine (or NH, or farther away, if you feel like driving) area needs a good shop recommendation, drop me a line. They matched the base color to the existing car so well that there was no need to blend the fenders, and the red stripe and black scoop just look great. I can't wait until it's been a couple months, so I can put a good coat of wax on and really shine it up nice :)

Joe

Still working on getting pictures uploaded, but I thought I'd update the hood height thing for some people who asked.

By changing hoods, I gained approximately 2" of clearance over the aircleaner. My previous hood just barely cleared the aircleaner (the wingnut actually wore a hole in the insulation, but didn't touch the hood itself - very close fit), so if I figure I want more clearance than that, that still leaves me with about an 1-3/4" of extra room to play with.

Taller intake and taller aircleaner are on the list :)

Joe

As promised, here are at least a couple pics.

I have better ones, but they'll be a little while longer in the making...

Joe

Love those curves :)
