ladies and gentlemen,
OK, I REALIZE THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN ASKED IN ALL SORTS OF WAYS BUT I NEED A TEMP FIX.

I HAVE SPENT HOURS OF SWEAT BLOOD AND TEARS ADJUSTING MY CAMBER ADJUSTING BOLT TIGHTEN EVERYTHING, AND WHEN I LOWER IT TOO THE GROUND, RUN ARROUND THE BLOCK I GET THE SAME RESULTS, WITH THE TOE OUT LOOK. NOT ONLY IS IT UGLY AND EMBARRASSING IT IS HARMFUL TO MY TIRES.

MY GOAL IS TO DO THE VB&P SETUP BUT UNTIL THE $$$ FLOWS, I NEED A TEMP FIX. I'VE BEEN READING OF BUBBA AND BENDING THE STRUT RODS TO ACHIEVE THE CORRECT POSITION.

I'M NOT SAYING PERMINATE FIX!!! I JUST DONT WANT ANY MORE DAMAGE TO OCCUR TO MY 77, I THINK I ALREADY KNOCKED A MUFFLER PIPE LOOSE, AND THAT WAS A TRIP INTO MY DRIVEWAY AFTER SUPPOSEDLY FIXING IT!!!

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPREICIATED.

Hey Borderbum.

I assume you are frustrated and that is why you are shouting at us in all CAPS. If you don't mean to shout, please click that off on the next post.

As far as your question goes. Yes, you can bend them, and it has been done often.

What concerns me is that you set it and it sags right back down. Are the bushings at each end worn out?

I would think you could easily get a set of new bushings only for the rear strut arms, spend a few hours popping the old ones out, knocking out the worn out rubber ones, pop some fresh ones in, set the camber and go as long as you need to until you are ready for the complete VB&P. I don't know the cost on the bushings only, but I can't imagine it is more the $50 for just the four new stock replacment ones.

Let us know what you come up with.

As far as the VB&P stuff goes, I can tell you that it is an EXCELLENT choice. I have that on my car, and my buddy just put it on his 71, and you can adjust nearly anything you want. The ride is firm, yet very stable.

Sorry for the capps, ladies and gentlemen,

i appreiciate the response, the answer to your questions is I did replace the upper bushings in the strut rods with polyurathane bushings, the lower ones were not bad and you could probably guess i was going to do it until I realized that the lower shock mount is frozen solid. i havent givin up quite yet but cutting them off is not too far out of my thoughts.
even with the upper poly bushings in place I guess the camber wont hold. I have tried to toe in the tires all the way just to see if they will lossen back to a "normal" setting but they will go back to a slightly toe out setting. would the bending of the strut rods cure this? i'm thinking that it will.

More than likely your inner yokes are worn out. As you bend and adjust the strut rods to compensate for camber you create a toe-out condition. Rear end height will also have an effect on adjustment. You should have two to three fingers clearance between the top of the tire to the fenderlip. Check your inner yokes. If they ARE worn out there isn't a patch for it. Time for a repair.

stingray6974,

Something you said may have been what I need, you said that the ride height has something to do with the alignment? correct me if I'M wrong. The other day I thought that the rear of my car sat too low, and I saw where someone else said you could adjust the ride height by tighting the bolt under the rear spring. I did this but only raised it maybe 4 or so turns. I drove the car just now and the rear tires are not nearly as bad. If this is the case and I raise it some more will the tire come into alignment? I did not get the passenger side as many turns and it is better but not as good as the drivers side. Now i did read that if I needed to raise the rear even further(based on how the rear bushings are) that i could put some sort of spacer in there? My rear bushings in the spring are not that hot, but i would not mind at all to replace these, and raise the rear some and not have to Bubbafy my strut rods.
one more thing, you said that the rear tire should be 2-3 finger widths from the top of the tire to the fenderlip? Well mine is arround 1 1/2.
this is exciting finding all this knowledge in one place!!
