Please someone correct me if I'm being snooty or behaving guilty of a Corvette enthusiast faux pas... but am I the only one who cringes a little when he sees the wrong generation wheels on a Corvette? I'm finding it a little hard on the eyes to see C4 or C5 wheels on C3 cars.

I'm all about a guy doing to or with his car as he sees fit. Our cars are the canvas by which we express ourselves. Whatever we do with our car who's to say otherwise?

I'm just wondering what everyone thinks.

Again... call a spade a spade if I'm off track.

I mostly agree with you. I really dislike when a C5 puts on C6 wheels, but I have C6 issues all together. I totally understand however, if it is for performance reasons. I've even read articles that said putting '96 GS wheels on a C5 improved it's cornering. I think it was in VETTE magazine.

I'd say you answered your own question. ;)

There are certainly Vettes that have been modified in ways I don't care for... but I don't have to own them or drive them so.....

A very good point.

between C5 & C6 i dont see a problem, i do think that todays low profile tires and wheels look stupid on C3's... something about the big meaty truck tire i have always loved

I think the argument comes back to complementing pieces. Certain generations are known by certain wheels. Ralleyes on C3s, sawblades on C4s, and Wagon wheels on C5s. Takes something over the top and it will look distasteful. It's all about balance.

For example, a bone stock C4 would look odd with C6 wheels. There is an unspoken rule about a totally stock car and later model OEM wheels being Taboo. However, with performance mods and some low key exterior accents... the wheels might look at home- as if it was part of an overall direction. Then again, the car isn't stock with mods and therefore looks more at home.

I have 17" wheels on my Vette. I didn't go with an OEM wheel or TT2s. Most people associate 17"s as a C4 size wheel. Lots of folks with C3s are moving up to 17" wheels for performance reasons and the simple fact that 255/60/15s are getting harder to find at a reasonable price. I don't think they look out of place either- even if they are a C4 size.

It comes back to balance and the total "look". If the car has stance... then it looks pretty good.

I personally wouldn't use C4 or C5 wheels on my Vette because of the spacer/adapters that would be required.

No, I would find it a little hard on the eyes also if I were to see a C3 with C4 or C5 wheels. Even some of the more modern oversized rims look odd to me on a C3. But I really can't knock it until I try it. I have 20" wheels on my 04 Durango. It looks great and handles better but the ride sucks.
