Need a stock liner (blanket ??) for 2004 hood..

Friend bought a '04 with hood blanket painted with "Stuff" and the wordage "Mom's Corvette" and he would like to put a stock liner/blanket or whatever it's called in...

He talked to a body shop about painting over the one on the car now, the body shop didn't think my buddy would be impressed with the results .. ;)

Contact me via thread, PM or email ..

Thanks
Bud

$110 new at any Chevy dealer. Going to be hard to find someone who can ship one used so no damage will occur. You need a truck to get it home from the dealer with the box it comes in.

Interesting.... very interesting

My buddy lives in North Platte, NE and deals at Chevrolet Dealership Harchelroad Chevrolet, Imperial NE...

I believe Harchelroad is in the top 20 for Corvette Sales and higher for the Calloway addon. They don't have one and told my buddy they are getting really hard to find...

I checked our two Chevrolet Dealers here in Amarillo, and both .... none in stock and they would not est. order time/delivery ;shrug

If you have time could or would you call your local Chevy Dealer and see if they have one ... Thanks

Bud

That's what I say. Take it off & shoot some primer (maybe) & some flat black from a rattle can.

What have you got to loose???

Don't over think this.

Hey Bud, I've got the liner that I removed from my Z16 when I installed a custom embroidered one from Car Motorsports sitting in a shipping box in my basement. It is like new, I'm just not positive I want to part with it. What would it be worth to your buddy? Maybe $75 plus shipping?

I should have reported back on this ...sorry :ugh

My buddy called Daniels Chevrolet in Colorado Springs, and they directed him to dealer in Denver and he bought a new :thumb

Actually he save some money on the shipping by having Harchelroad Motors do the ordering and then ship it to him ;) ( He bought the car from Harchelroads ;) )

All worked out well :thumb

As for the suggestions of painting the liner with different paints and a couple of times, would probably cover the lettering and design, but without removing the original paint job there would be the outline and at different angles it would be more obvious...

Thanks for the help and all the suggestions :thumb

Just picked up a replacement hood liner for my '98 coupe. Not sure how, but the one that was in there when I bought the car was lightly damaged, like something was scraping against it... ;shrug

I was wondering what was the best way to remove the old headliner without chewing it or the hood itself up? I realize that the fifteen black plastic fasteners need to be removed, but wasn't sure if there was a 'trick' to doing it that avoided any damage (and possibly allowed the fasteners to be salvaged).

If at all possible, I'd like to retain the old hood liner and possibly try to refurbish the damage for possible resale to someone who just needs a clean, intact, functional hood liner for their C5, but is not necessarily concerned about achieving the 'pristine collector's vehicle' look...

Thanks!

When I changed my hood liner, all I did was work my fingertips under the edges of the retainers and pull out. Retainers can be reused but why... the dealer has them for like 50 cents each!! It helps if you leave the center retainer attached till last, it makes controlling the old liner much easier. Good luck with your project!

Removing the retainer buttons can be a little tricky. They don't want to come out easy and I used one of those large bar-b-que forks to get under them. If you break one of the button, don't worry. They can be bought at any car parts or body parts store and they're only like $3.00 for a box of six. Good luck and take you time.

Thanks for the tips, Jim!

I did get some new retainers with the hood liner, but I'm currently short a few (for some reason, they only supplied me with 10, and I need 15). Plus I'm the product of two Depression-era parents, so I try not to waste anything... :D Maybe I'll just break down, go back, and get another 5...?

Do you have a C5 graphic on the replacement hood liner, Tim?
Want one?

Remo had someone paint his for less than 100 bucks and it looks good... or it did when he started that thread in Spring 2009. I've also seen various other posts by members that did their own.

No graphics on the replacement; it's a straight OEM liner, so it's just got the embossed C5 logo. That does look good, but this replacement hood liner is for the Aztec Gold coupe, which I'm trying to keep purely stock; so I'm not planning to embellish the hood liner at all. I might try to touch up the old hood liner a bit to make the minor damage less apparent, then offer it up as a replacement to someone who, as I said, may just need a good, functional hood liner for their C5.

And thanks, Bud, for the additional advice from "Remo." I'd be hesitant to use something sharp and metallic around the hood of my Aztec Gold coupe, but perhaps I can improvise something made of plastic, keeping a BBQ fork in mind as a model...?
