Z06 gears to top speed chart

I have looked in the Tech Section and could not find it. I found the gear ratio's for each gear but I am looking for a chart which shows the maximum calculated speed for each gear at an established RPM range or even red line will do, e.g first gear top speed of 53 MPPH at 6,000 RPM.

I remember seeing this someplace before. I am referring to the stock 6 speed transmission in the 2003 Z06, which may very well be the same for the 2002, 2004 etc.

Here is the speed at 6500 for each gear stock 3 42`s 1st 50mph 2nd 71mph. 3rd 103mph. 4th 148mph. 5th 176mph. 6th 264mph. :beer

Thanks were did you obtain these figures if I may ask, (Is there a link to a chart somewhere?) or did you calculate these, from the looks of things and just guessing I would have to agree, particular with the 1 and 2 gear speeds. I know if one is not careful, it can be easy to over-rev 1st gear (hit the limiter).

I printed them out from a link on Z06VETTE.COM a couple years ago when I got my 3 90`s. You need to shift around 6300 or so as the tach & speedo lag behind. I actually think the HUD is more accurate than the dash guages. :w Hope this helps you
 
This will probaly bunch up, but I found a chart for the gears, so bear with me I will try to edit and space out somewhat, as I have another question.

Gear Inches per engine revolution Speed per 1000 RPM @ 6500 RPM
1st gear 8.1inches 7.7 mph 50.05 mph
2nd gear 11.6 inches 11.0 mph 71.5 mph
3rd gear 16.8 inches 15.9 mph 103.35 mph
4th gear 24.0 inches 22.7 mph 147.55 mph
5th gear 28.6 inches 27.1 mph 176.15 mph
6th gear 42.9 inches 40.6 mph 263.9 mph

Well the spacing will not work so look at the last speed figure in the lower right 263.9 mph. Now I know the car will not go this fast?

So what limits it's speed?

If one had a long enough track would the car eventually reach this speed?

I have heard or read somewhere that the top speed is a factor of torque/HP needed due to the mass involved and that is why the C5 Z06 tops out at it's current max speed as listed, I believe somewhere around 180 mph

Even the C6 Z06 will not reach this speed as it cannot develop enough torque/HP either at the current 505 HP

Or, will the cars eventually reach this speed, 263, but are limited by the computer chip?

Top speed is limited by wind resistance... more, much more, HP is needed for 6th gear to go up even by 5-10 mph. It, (6th gear) gives up the mechanical advantage to reduce the engine rpms which, when cruising, helps return better fuel mileage. Top speed in all but 6th gear is limited by the redline/fuel cutoff. The computer does not limit the speed per se, but only the maximum engine rpm, (fuel cutoff) to preserve the engine. Therefore, each gear has a maximum speed, limited only by the fuel cutoff point, as long as the engine is capable of reaching that point for the respective gear. Therefore the only way one could come close to the mathmatical maximum speed of 263 mph, is on a dyno. Even there I doubt that it could get much above 230 -240 because of the drivetrain and tire drag eating up hp as the speeds get higher and higher.
