It looks like, to me, that what is being argued here is what you want in a Corvette. Personally I value all out performance over all others so then the arguements you presented don't hold water at all. If your willing to sacrifice performance for other things (like more freedom in styling and "chrome" type accessories) then my arguement won't hold water. Your arguing matters of opinion.

Bioscache2,

Argue sounds a bit strong. We are discussing our opinions, preferences, speculation and facts. It may sound heated but it is our passion. Your judgment holds much water. We are the Corvette loyal who decide the fate of this cherished machine just as much as the folks that produce it. Without us the Corvette would not be the icon that it is. We have been fortunate that GM does listen to its customers, the automotive press, its dealers and its service techs. (Many of us fall into more than one of these catagories.) GM has been a little slow to respond at times requiring that we speak louder and more often but they eventually get the message.

I don't mean to sound argumentitive either... I don't argue over the car, at the current time I don't see a reason to buy one... It is good to hear others ideas/opinions on it all too. Maybe my mind will change... maybe it won't. Better yet, maybe GM/Chevy will do something about it!

It seems in the last 15+ years, GM has always taken the weak stance on all of their cars, and wind up with a bureaucrat type vehicle. What do I mean here? Only a dumb group of people could put the Aztek on the road (a great idea in a butt ugly package)... The SSR has guts, but still looks a bit lame (lame enough that people won't buy it, and I am actually considering buying one based on how cheap they are getting), the GTO looks like a grand-prix (who wants a throw-back muscle car that looks like a 'standard' car), etc. The only set in the GM lineup that has any guts is Cadillac. The Caddy line up is setting a new trend in car styling that is like no other on the road, but yet not ugly.

That is what the Corvette was all the way through the C4... I have never mistaken any 1996 and prior car to anything else on the road... Corvette always set the trend, not copied. And on top of that, the corvette always had great power, handling, etc.... Why should I settle for a car that looks like other cars to get better performance? I can't go 200 MPH, so a few tenths off for drag won't bother me if it means I get a UNIQUE car.

Corvette used to be about setting the trend for Performance AND Style... recently, that is not the case IMO, and no one seems to be able to set me straight :(

GM's latest "mark of excellence" seems to be an oil stain.....
I remember when the paint on the Corvette was rarely shared with other cars in the GM lineup (with the exception of black and white). You can get a sub 10,000 Victory Red Aveo to match your Corvette now ;LOL

It's funny you should say that. The dealer I went to today had a new yellow C6 parked near a new Cavalier the same exact color. :( I guess it could be worse, they could bring back those two tone paint jobs.

I do like (not love) the overall look of the C6. It definetly has a Corvette look to it but the Cadi XLR is more classy and unique looking inside and out. If it came in a 6 speed manual I would strongly consider buying it over a C6. The real world price difference is not really that bad compared to a fully loaded C6.

GM has made some strange decisions with Cadillacs too. The CTS-V should have an automatic trans option and the XLR a manual trans option. Who's in charge?

GM had a unique red and they listened to the griping by the "customer" and they pulled it. Ironical, isn't it?

If the new Z06 is in the range of 70 grand, why would someone buy one over a Viper or other semi-exotic(Even though the C6 has viper styling cues IMO)?

Assuming the pictures I have seen online are the new Z06, it is just a lightly modified C6 (visually at least)... a car I am going to see every single day riding on the road.. I am sure many C6 owners will modify their cars to make it look like the new Z06 (just as many C5 owners have done) which further takes its (mildly) unique look away... I can't tell you the last time I saw a Viper on the road, so that is what I would plunk my 70 grand down on... because 70 grand should buy you a car that is different than a car you see every day.

That is why the new Z06 could cause a problem for the next generation corvette... it may not be unique enough, while being as costly as a unique car which could kill sales long-term.

Of course, this is still based on speculation on what the new Z looks like and costs.
Therein lies a clear explanation of the difference between persons who buy cars for the impression they make on other people and persons who buy cars for their preformance.

If you want to impress your friends and neighbors with how different you are? Buy a Viper. Want to buy the best performing sports car under 150,000 dollars? You'll be buying an '06 Z06

I coudn't care less what my friends and neighbors think. If I did, I would probably be driving a hybrid POS. I drive the car that I like, and I personally like to be a bit different. I don't want to go to a parking lot and see another car just like mine. Even my corvettes have been a bit different... I had yellow when it wasn't a popular color, my somewhat generic CE has torch red inside for a bit of a twist...

In my opinion, styling is more deeply rooted into the history of the Corvette than performance is.

Gentlemen,
What a wierd thread this is. Everyone whipped into a frenzy, and over what? Regarding the ZO6, I believe it was an option package in the C2 era (Big tank, brakes, etc..?) and I think we should view it that way now. It is unrealistic to expect a totally different car at the price point it is going to hit (and I don't for a second believe it's going to be $70K or higher).

Absolutely not gonna be $70k. Base price between $55k and $60k, but I believe it will be under $60k.
