Z06 Replica Chrome Wheels

Hi Everyone!

I saw this Z06 Replica Chrome Wheels on CorvetteGarage.com and they are selling it for $249.99 ("on sale") per wheel. It seems like that's too cheap compared to Madvet.com with a "similar" looking Chrome wheels at $699.99.

What up with this HUGE price difference? Is it QUALITY? Or maybe the cheap one weighs a TON? I assume that not all Z06 Replica wheels are created equal. How is the Z06 Replica Chrome wheels compared to the stock in terms of weight?

Sorry guyz I have too many questions. I don't know much about wheels. Your comments and specially your SUGGESTIONs on where I should buy it from is greatly appreciated!

Correction...Madvet.com is $699.99 for a pair...which is $350 per wheel. But still...that's $100 difference.

Go to the Various vette Z06 sites..

Buy rims already chromed and quite often with tires too boot......if thats what you like but IMHO..

I would never buy reproductions...

They are quite heavy and don't meet the quality of OEM rims..

Unsprung weight increase is not your friend..

I agree about unsprung weight, alot of these repro wheels are heavy as balls. Less acceleration, longer braking, and worse ride, especially over bumps.

Can OEM wheels be sent to the chromer to be chromed like any other steel part? And, if they are aluminum (which I'm almost positive they are), can I just polish them myself like I do the aluminum on my bike? Either way, will it hurt anything?

There are Z06 reproduction wheels made in China and the USA. Some say the USA versions are better, but both can be bought for about $750 to $1000 a set. You can get them polished or chromed. They are all just cast aluminum, and weigh a couple pounds each more than OEM Z06 wheels. . The 2001 OEM Z06 wheels were made by ALCOA of forged aluminum and weigh just a little more than the 2002 and later Z06 wheels, which are made by Speedline in Italy using the spin-cast process.

Chromed OEM Z06 wheels usually run about $1400 to $1500. You can buy them used -- but someone elses idea of "mint" condition might not be yours.

If you want chromed wheels you need to buy them already chromed. You can not have a set chromed for what you would pay for some already chromed. You can get chromed reproductions, or OEMs that have been chromed. Even though the wheels are not as light or as good quality, often the chroming on reproduction wheels will be better than the chroming on OEMs that have been chromed. Beware of vendors that tell you they have a set of OEM Z06 almost new takeoffs that they had sent out to have chromed. I bought two sets of those and both were bad quality (from highly regarded vendors). And the vendors rarely get the same wheels back that they send out to have chromed. If they advertise that they had a set of 2004 takeoffs that they had chromed -- well they may have sent out 2004 wheels to have chromed, but what they got back might be a hodgepodge of different year wheels, in different states of condition. I am kinda picky, but after going through two sets from different vendors and losing money on both sets just to get rid of them, I decided to just buy a set of new Z-16 OEM Z06 wheels. And frankly the polish and clearcoat even on those is not great! To get really good quality wheels you have to bite the bullet and spend the money for forged aftermarket wheels.

Chrome Wheels

I was able to buy 4 chrome Z06 wheels for my C6 Coupe for $1600 CDN plus my polished aluminum rims in exchange. They look "marvelous"! This was at my local Chevy dealer.

I have a set of black zo6 replicas on mine, and they have been working great. Picking up the oem wheels and the replicas, they feel about the same weight. The replicas are a little heavier of course but not by much. They've been on for a while now and there are no signs of cracking or anything like that. I guess it just depends on who you get them from. There are posts out there about the 5 spokes oems cracking.... I got mine from a company near austin, tx. All I have heard about them are good things, and I went by the place; everything looks really reputable. pm me if you want the website.

I got the Replica ZR1 wheels for my C4. They measured a pound heaver than the alluminum wheels, and for $249 included the chrome centers and chrome lugs. With other wheels these are not included. I have had them about a year, and they still look like new.
