2006 Z51 Yellow
I no longer have my 2006 Z51 and have another one just like it on order, but the dealer tells me that there is parts shortage and they are not sure when I will get it.

Does anyone know what the issue is or when the cars will be available?

Z51s are on constraint all year long. I will be difficult for any dealer to guarantee a Z51 order for 2006.

Z51's are in short supply due to CAFE restrictions. Mine was accepted by GM last week and will be built in 2 weeks but I had to wait a while for the order to get picked.

Can you define "CAFE", and what about these restrictions are holding back the Z51???

Corporate Average Fuel Economy.

All auto manufacturers must meet a government imposed gas mileage target. The new 6 SPD automatic and the Z06 get lower EPA mileage than a C6 with manual trans. The Z51 gets lower mileage as well due to lower gearing.

Making lots of Z51's was no problem in 2005 since there was no 6 SPD automatic or Z06 to lower the overall average. In order to build the 6 SPD automatic and the Z06 this year Chevy has to reduce the number of Z51's to maintain the average.

But you can still get one. My Z51 is being built next Thursday and Friday. You just have to work with a dealer who can get the limited quantities of Z51's.

How long is "a while"? I am also somewhere on the list for a Z51, but havn't heard anything yet, ordered mine first week of October -Thanks.

You may need to change dealers. I did after waiting two months with no progress.

I finally ordered my 2006 C6 from Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine Texas. It will be built tomorrow. Grapevine is a suburb of Dallas right next to the airport. They will pick you up if you need to fly in.

Ron David with the Thomson Group (part of Classic) is the man to speak to. He has a great discount program and takes care of his customers. Contact him at 1-800-371-1560 You can mention my name, Jeff King. I got a $3200 discount on a Coupe w/ 2LT, Z51 and 6 spd manual. The discount will be greater if you add more options.

Hope this helps and good luck.
