I just had my '86 tuned up with the help of a local tuner who had his laptop plugged in while taking the car for a test drive.

Base chip was an custom from Arizona Speed & Marine (ASM) which I gather must have used a lot of GM crate motors so they had the curve dialled in.

Aside from the ZZ3 crate motor, I have Edelbrock runners and baseplate, and SLP tri-Y headers. The car was flowing about 10% more air than the assumed settings (still using MAF), so he had that curve corrected.

I have been using a chip programmed by a tuner recommended in this forum for over a year. He used the '89 advance curve which is apparently way too much advance for my set up (10 degrees more overall than the ASM) so the throttle response never felt quite right (compared to the ASM chip), and see later.

The computer showed spark retardation under 50-70% load of -2 degrees. +4 degrees on the ASM chip still felt disconnected. We tried -4 which was better than +4 but not as good as base. Went to -2, but decided to stay with base.

The ASM chip had fuel enrichment come on quite a bit earlier (rather than at 70% load for stock).

Haven't taken out the car for a full high performance run (too much traffic) so can't report back for some time but hoping to get better mileage and throttle response.

Hope this helps someone with a similar setup.
