93 Coupe Torch Red Daily driver
Now the owner of a 1993 torch red coupe. That's the short story. Actually this all started while I had my Electra Glide for sale. I had an offer to trade for a 91 coupe collector edition. Had a hand shake deal but the owner backed out the next day. The wife though she would look good in a Vette so I pursued the idea. I started contacting vettes for sale to trade. Well there are some "projects" out there that some think are-- I'm not going there. I had 2 that intrested me a 89 convertible stick 2 tops and this 93. the 89 was about 300 miles away and the 93 was local. Wife liked the red and not a stick so the deal was done. It's a driver almost 150K miles and has some work that needs done but runs just fine. Got it on Fri. and took a road trip on Sun. from St.Louis to K.C. with no problems. I did change oil the belt and rad hoses b4 leaving.

Now can any one tell me about the side exhaust on this car. I have searched the web and so far nothing. I have a neighbor with a C1 and C3 and has never seen that on a C4

Thanks for any info
Ken

EDIT: Kenny, I edited your post to include the fullsize photo of your C4. Good luck with your search.

I have seen a couple of pictures of c4's with these side pipes, from what I can find they are no longer in production. Perhaps someone here knows who made them and a source.

I believe those pipes were made by a company called "Side Effects". They are no longer in business.

With 150K miles on the car I suggest you change all the fluids, hoses and belts unless the seller provided service records that showed the work had recently been done.

Kenny, do the sidepipes get hot? I ask because I know the sidepipes on Midyears do get hot enough to burn your legs when getting in and out. It only takes one time to burn into your memory (no pun intended :chuckle ) that you don't want to do that again. :L

The power effects look really clean. I do like that look. I've seen other C4's with side pipes. One in particular had a 572 cu in crate engine with aluminum side pipes. The car was sold at last yrs Barrett-Jackson auction. I spent several minutes studying the car for ideas of doing this myself. I think the picture of the power effects looks much better.

I am also interested in the heat issue. Looks like they are fiberglass or plastic covers. How do they attach to the cars exhaust system?
Mike

Watch your State inspection requirements! In Texas the exhaust MUST exit behind the rear most opening (door) in the car body and those may be failed by a prick.

The pipes look very nice and as stated the comnpany is out of business.
Performance wise they are very restrictive you would be better off with a original exhaust system or a Borla, Corsa, or Magna Flow if the noise is not a problem.
For 150k it appears to have been well taken care of.

Thanks for the input on the exhaust. It is fairly loud. There is internal rust holes that allow exhaust gas to bypass most if not all the muffling part of the system. Looking in the outlet this area is about 8 in up inside the pipe. A quick look under the car has a single large pipe running down the center of the car then a "t" where it splits left and right this makes a turn forward about where the outlet is then runs to the front where it makes a 180 and heads to the outlet. From where the rust holes are forward of that the plumbing is cool to the touch but to the rear it is hot so I assume exhaust flow is not going forward. The covers do not get hot at all. Had no prob with MO. state inspection either.

It is not in too bad shape for 150K. There are a number of issues that need attention pass window motor, blend door motor, driver door hinge needs seat covers stuff like that. It's another project.

Kenny,

Do you still have your car? I saw one just like it in Columbia, IL, not too far from you. What caught my eye was the sidepipes.

Yep still have it. Right now waiting on the arrival of a new optispark. Had a bad water pump and did not want to reuse the old one with 150k on it although it was working fine. Hope that's not a mistake:ohnoes
I get to Columbia a couple times a month I'll keep an eye out

Car is on a small lot about half way between Columbia and Waterloo, near Hope Christian Church.

Looks nice from the road but haven't stopped to check it out closer.

Congrats.. The car looks great.

Another Ken, R.I.P., buddy, had these on his modified '87 but removed them for two reasons:
1) the restrictive nature due to the sharp turns you listed, and
2) ground clearance problems.

I am guessing UR wife looks good in that Vette, too. :w

Out of business? I'm confused. The link posted by 89blackvette appears to show they are still very much in business! Power Effects

The page even says copyright 1999-2010. Its midnight here now so i'm not about to call them ....;shrug
