When the engine is cold, I can't get the car into gear (1st, reverse, etc.), but after about 10 minutes of idle time when the engine is warm, the clutch will engage and shift normally through all 6 gears (and reverse) and run smoothly with no slippage, sticking or difficulty. Car has 68K on it and is the original clutch and trans. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks.

Start by flushing and bleeding the clutch hydraulics per the Factory Service Manual. I suggest using GM hyd. clutch fluid rather than ordinary brake fluid.

GM Hydraulic clutch fluid part#: 12345347

Thanks for the prompt reply! I'll start there.

How long have you owned this car?
Did it just start doing this,or has it always been this way?

Has the oil in the transmission ever been changed,or topped off when serviced?:confused

What I'm getting at is there any possibility that 85w-90 gear oil was put in it?

This would make it very hard to shift cold because it's supposed to have 5w-30.;shrug

I don't recall that ever being done, but if it was, it would have been done at least 2-3 years ago.
