LT4 1996 LT4...Considering Modifications ??

I am considering some basic performance modifications to my: 1996 Collector LT4.

Frankly; I dont know much about Corvettes other than to drive them. I believe I have found a good Corvette specialist shop in Denver to perform any work.

My concern is de-valueing the vehicle by installing these custom modifications?

I am thinking of merely some basics; Air Intake, Exhaust system etc.

Any thoughts on doing this or should I keep it stock?

Thanks in advance for you're replies.

In general, you won't have to worry about de-valuing a Corvette. But if you do simple bolt on mods such as intake/exhaust, they can easily be reversed.

And the issue of value only comes up if you're selling the car. If you plan on keeping the car, the only person that value matters to is you.

Exhaust systems and intakes are pretty common mods. They're not as extreme, custom or user-specific as something like a cam. I think that bolt on mods are pretty common and they won't really be a detriment.

Edmund...thanks for the input...

I have been hearing elsewhere that the stock exhaust on the LT4 is pretty good and exhaust modification may not provide the added HP that one might expect. Any thoughts on this?

Have you modified your Vette and if so what Brand Exhaust did you choose and why?

Regards,

Mike

It's true, from the reports and studies that I have read, LT1/4 stock exhaust systems are very well flowing. Stock for stock, they flow much better (in proportion) to their earlier C4 (L98) counterparts.

On the L98's, the stock mufflers only flowed through one outlet on each muffler.

One modification that is relatively inexpensive for the LT4 is that a lot of guys eliminate the resonator. That might give a drone and might be too loud.

I have a Flowmaster on mine. Price wise, Flowmaster is lower than the stainless steel systems. Flowmasters don't appeal to everyone because they have a tendency to be loud and not everyone likes that. I like loud and obnoxious so I chose Flowmaster.

I put the Magnaflows on my LT4. You have to cut the X pipe and then bolt them on. My local shop charged me about $90, which was worth it to me. I don't really know how much HP gain I got, but it sounds SO much better. Just a bit of a growl, but not obnoxious.

Having Work Done...

-Re-Programing (Turn fans on at lower temp), New Thermostat

-Flowmaster mufflers

-SLP Cold Air Induction

These are all basic (reversable if desired) Mods, recommended by a Corvette Racing friend of mine.

I am looking forward to it.

VaRoooom!!

Leave it stock, Isn't the LT4 in stock form high 12 second car on a cool day?

How much faster do you need it, do you race for cash, or just pride on the street?

If you go to car shows you will win the awards in stock form or go to bloominton and get a gold sticker.

Mods are for cars with hardly any value like an 85 vette, in my oppinion a stock LT4 is right up there with a ZR1, only a loonitic would mod a ZR1, both of these cars will be worth a ton of cash one day in stock form. Look at those old goofy looking muscle cars, they are pulling in over a $100,000, the ones that are not modded.

If you want to mod something, buy another vette like a 89 vette with a 6 speed and put a miniram on it and some nitros and you will have a 10 second car.

It's YOUR car so I say mod it how you like. Did you buy it for you or the next owner? I bought my LT4 stock 3 yrs ago and have been personalizing it ever since. In every way, this car is better now than when I bought it. Yes, these cars were fine stock but imho, upgrades are just that...UPGRADES.

FWIW...Of course I'm aware that the money I put into this car I may/will not recoup but, when & if I sell, I'll look for a buyer that has this type of modded car in mind. Yes, he'll get quite a deal compared to what I spent but oh well...I got to enjoy this car the way I wanted it to be. Although my car is no longer stock, I have been meticulous w/ every facet of this car and have a stack of reciepts to back it up.

JEFNSLA,
BEAUTIFUL CAR !!!

Very pleased with these minor mods. The car runs a whole lot better. I expect the re-program application helped considerably and the car is running cool (about 190 degrees).

New tires next and I am set for some time to come.

Thanks to all for the input!!
