Looking for an easy way to boost my HP on my 94. How much HP do you think I'll get from the Hypertech tuning module?

Appreciate the advice!

I think the biggest advantage is being able to firm up your shifts if you have an auto. I've read reports of people going to the drag strip and actually losing time after a hypertech tune.

Save your money and call Ed Wright at Fast Chips and send him your computer or purchase a second one for every day and one to pass state inspection:) depends on what mod's you have done to a stock LT1.

I did a 94 TA LT1 but it was a 285 HP LT1 and with the Hyper Tech programmer and 160 stat and a K@N air filter it gain about 20 HP like what a LT1 Vette does stock. I do not think you will gain much with the Hyper Tech on HP the GM programming is not too far off for a 300 HP street engine to drive in traffic with the A/C on.

If your Lt-1 is stock, my guess is very little. They lean out the fuel curve as in less fuel (this could be bad if something else goes bad) and advance the timing.

Yes it makes for a crisper engine but it moves you closer to the edge of destruction if that makes any sense. It can also create a ping situation under loads.

I've Hyeprteched a supercharged Bonneville and an LT-1, Z28.
I was disappointed in both cases. It did help with fan cut on temps however.

For my money, it isn't worth it. Can anyone on here back up Hypertech claims with some real numbers for a C-4 ? I'm interested in before and after quarter mile times with no other mods. ;shrug

I Hyperteched my '96 LT1 and I'm glad I did,if for nothing other than lower cooling fan temps and trans shift improvements. It sure feels better to me but I haven't been to the track to see if there is any "real" difference et wise.

I have the advantage of being actually close to the Hypertech facility here in Memphis.....I have a '94 LT-1 and had them run the tune at their factory for me. It did reduce the engine temperature by at least 20 degrees, now running comfortably at around 201 with a 160 Hypertech thermostat as well. It bumped up the HP by approximately 30 or 40 HP to 340, and the shift points are much better. It was a noticeable difference especially when accelerating from around 70 or 75 MPH upwards to around 100 MPH with NO problem, in a heartbeat. Now, for your average driver, that's impressive. As far as track and racing, I can't say.....

Does the 160 degree thermostat make the engine run cooler or the fans coming on at a lower temp make the engine run cooler....it would seem to me that the fans coming on would do more than a lower temp thermostat.

I also think synthetic oil works better than dino oil!!

There....I am the first person on CAC to put the 2 most hotly debated subjects in the same thread!!

It is most likely that the fans coming on sooner would result in the lower operating temperature.

The only way the lower thermostat would reduce temp would be if you cooling system (radiator, fans, air flow, water flow, etc) could actually keep the engine at the thermostat temperature. Where I live (90 degrees + 80% humidity on a nice summer day. 105+ on hot days) that is not possible.

Thermostats set minimum engine temperature, not maximum engine temperature.

Did they actually strap your Vette on a rear wheel Dyno?? Call Ed Wright at Fast Chips. I promise you No way a stock LT1 will gain 30 or 40 HP with a hand held programmer. I have two and they were so I can turn on the fans here in Texas. See my other post. It does make about 15 more HP and the auto trans will shift really better and stay in a gear longer than stock and for the average driver this is a good deal. But 40 HP, I wish I have one for a LT1 auto and a 96 LT4 standard trans.
