EGR solenoid/Vacuum tree

While I have the plenum off waiting for my injectors from FIC, I figured I would replace anything that could possibly fail.

I noticed the EGR solenoid has a vacuum connection with 2 steel clips facing the passenger side. There is nothing connected and I can't find anything hanging around to hook up.

Looked in the FSM and can't find a diagram.

If anyone knows what it is or where to find it in the FSM I would appreciate a hand.

Look at the emission label on the radiator shroud.

It looks like it just might be a retainer as the diagram doesn't show anything coming out.

I wasn't getting any EGR code.

Bought a new EGR valve.

The old EGR has the big "piston" all the way out and it won't move , the new one is flush with the mounting flange except for the small piston which sticks out about 3/16 and moves freely.

you think the old one is bad?

There is an entire section in the FSM on EGR operation and diagnosis, what does it indicate?

Good article, I have modified the exhaust, (Dual exhaust,no cat and stock mufflers).

I never got the dreaded 32 code. I just noticed the piston was all the way out on the old valve and frozen, I don't see how it could have worked.

I bought a new one and noticed it's piston was flush with the mounting base with the exception of the smaller (center) piston extending about 1/4 of an inch and moves freely when pressed.

With my luck I will put a new one in and then I will get the 32 code!!!

I just noticed something else, vacuum nipple on my new egr is smaller than the oem, and the hose is not going to stay on. anybody dealt with this?

Any parts store should have a selection of inline or tee style vacuum connectors similar to this assortment.

add a short length of smaller vacuum hose and you are golden.

The wedged shaped clips on the passenger side of the EGR solenoid was for a small sponge like air filter, nothing is connected to it and is not an issue if it's missing.

Probably just fouled with carbon.

How much 'too small' is the vacuum port on the new EGR? Can it be clamped to seal? If not, get a male-to-male line adapter, and a short section of the proper sized line.
