1989 Covette 350 tuneport; starts and then quits. Have replaced: ignition coil, cap, rotor, wires, dist pick up,dist module, mass air flow, throttle position sensor, esc module, coolant temp sensor, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pump regulator, fuel pump sock, fuel filter, ecm. Throttle body and plannum have been cleaned, vacuum hoses fine, fuel injectors pulse. There is something that regulates the timing, dst(?), and when that is disconnected it runs but has no throttle response. Other than that no matter what is done it starts up and then stumbles and quits. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
**Sorry, I posted here in error-should have been in C4

DebZ,
I'm going to move this to the C4 Technical forums.
:)

Measure the resistance of the injector coils. Or disconnect them one at time. When you disconnect the bad one, it will run. An EGR valve stuck open with carbon is another possibility.

Any trouble codes stored? Any noticeable smell from the exhaust?

All the injectors are good... EGR is good. We found a little rust when we took out the knock sensor; we cleaned and replaced sensor.

Have you double checked the routing of the plug wires?

My 88 came back from the shop yesterday. Does this sound familiar?

Start the car it dies.
Start the car and keep your foot on the gas it revs, until you release your foot and it dies.
Drive the car a while, making sure not to let the RPMs drop and everything becomes fine.

They said my timing was off. I don't really know what that means. But they said it should have been around 6 and was at 0. Car is running the best it ever has in the limited time I have owned it.

If these are not the same as your symptoms, then sorry I couldn't help.

Yes, spent the day double checking everything. We had a strong feeling it was distributor related.... turns out the pick up in the distributor was bad. We had replaced it but the new part was bad! Since we had replaced so many things (to update since it all was original)it took a while to locate the problem. It is now running fantastic, so much better than when we started... :D

Thanks to all who tried to help!

Isn't that something though! Happened to me once also with another vehicle. The pick up coil was replaced in the dist but when they made the part the plastic insulator must have spilled onto the internal connections causing a disconnect intermittently. Just goes to show you that a new part can be defective or I thought maybe it just happens to me! :bash
