FYI, the shop confirmed it is the starter that went bad. I don't remember seeing any TSBs or hearing that this is common for the C5. While its in, I asked them to change the trans fluid and filter... total bill for parts and labor is $506.

Cut right to the chase... turn the key and click - nothing else. Replaced the battery thinking it dropped a cell. Original battery was charged very close to 100% and tested at 13.2v. Removed from the charger and after a shower (me not the battery) voltage showed 11.7.

You MUST upgrade your iPOD's software to the latest version if you have a 3rd generation iPOD. You may have to play with buttons on the stereo in order to get sound if you don't. Also it's about 50/50 that the iPOD turns on and off when you start and stop the car but to me those are minor...
Holy cow you got robbed!! I only paid $190 for my unit (dealer price). I checked with Ken Fitchner Chevy via email and they only wanted somewhere between $220-$250 (don't quote me on this.)
I replaced the unit myself about a month ago. It isn't a pain but it is a bit scary to manhandle some of the parts to remove and install them. All you need are Torx screwdrivers and a few nut drivers. I used the C5 factory stereo removal procedure on corvetteforum.com as a guide.
