I disagree: Whoever writes history last probably gets it wrong since he's the furthest removed from the events (he tailors it to suit his beliefs & politics... but since he got the last word, his version probably sticks).
Unless you get them from the original buyer, they'd be fake, because the build records on mid-year Corvettes are lost to history (except for 1967 Corvettes where the build sheet was glued atop the gas tank and may be still there)

I agree, sounds like you are on the right track. By black & red wires, do you mean the thick battery terminal cables? The red battery cable goes to the starter solenoid. There are then multiple positive power wires from the starter solenoid... two of those are feed wires to the car's electrical...
